Today’s post is an unusual travel photo that my friend sent to me from the Philippines. It’s about a rather bizarre installation of a high voltage electricity transmission line.
Electricity is one of those things in the First World that everyone takes for granted – but you definitely notice it when it’s not there!
Not many people appreciate the planning and engineering and all of the other stuff that’s actually required to send power to your home or place of accommodation – especially for wifi addicts like travel bloggers.
My mate was cruising around the island of Camiguin (probably fairly slowly) and he came across a rather interesting power pole installation method that he probably hadn’t come across before.
Anyway, check this out:

This is what he said.
“2019 in the Philippines. To be fair they didn’t INSTALL the power pole in the road but…..you would think they would move it .
The traditional mode of transport in the background might explain why. Travelling at 3 kilometres per hour on a buffalo you would have plenty of time to spot and avoid the power pole ”
He now lives there so I’m sure he’s on ‘Philippines Time’ too! Hopefully he’ll never have to use these power lines as a means to escape flooding!
I think the pace of life in Camiguin would be somewhat less hasty than the metropolises of the world. My friend’s anxiety levels go through the roof whenever he sees a set of traffic lights!
I’m pretty sure this mode of power pole installation wouldn’t past muster for the healthy and safety checks required in the developed world, but everything you see in your life has happened for some sort of reason, regardless of what that is!
Still, I wouldn’t want to collide with this power pole which would bring down a high Voltage Electricity line on top of me. That’s whether I was driving a jeepney, van, truck, or the cow tricycle!
