Roti Brothers in Crystal Palace: where flavour meets crunch

Ready to have your taste buds tantalized? Say hello to Roti Brothers, Crystal Palace best kept secret.

An array of eclectic burgers

Roti Brothers is a food truck in Crystal Palace in south London. It’s nestled on a street corner underneath colourful street art, on Weston Street, Crystal Palace main shopping street.

They’ve got a stellar menu of burgers on offer, plus rosemary fries (ooooh, the rosemary fries) and assorted nibbles such as chicken wings or quesadillas. The flavour profile of the menu is all over the place: Mexican, Korean, there’s some Greek influence in there too. All very mouth watering.

The towering aubergine and halloumi burger

I had the aubergine and halloumi burger, although “burger” in this instance should be understood quite loosely. It’s more of a stack, several slices of aubergine and halloumi cheese in a brioche bun, plus pickle, red cabbage and a generous slathering of sauces.

It was a beautiful combination of flavours, the saltiness of the grilled halloumi offset by the sweetness of the bun and the tanginess of the red cabbage, and I know I should tell you something about the flavour of aubergine, but what can you say about aubergine? It’s one of those vegetables you either really like or really dislike, I think, and it happens to be my favourite vegetable. I will say this, though: it was perfectly cooked to a melt in the mouth texture. Under cooked aubergine is all too common, and not particularly tasty, but that was definitely not the case here.

The perfect rosemary fries

And the rosemary fries! You could smell the rosemary through the closed container, and they were as perfectly crunchy as crunchy fries can be.

There are plenty of sauces (ketchup, mayo, malt vinegar etc) on self-service at the front of the truck, as well as wooden forks and plenty of napkins, and believe me, you’ll need those. This is messy eating at its best.

Add to that friendly service, and purse-friendly prices, and what have you got? The perfect spot for indulgent food in Crystal Palace. And beyond: they do take away, plus they’re on Deliveroo!

Just don’t ask me why they’re called Roti Brothers. I mean, there’s not a roti in sight. It’s just gonna have to be one of life’s unanswered questions, I guess?

And where do you go from there? Well, you can burn off the calories by exploring lovely Crystal Palace, or hop on the Overground. You’re 4 stops away from the best second hand bookshop in South London, or you could go to Brick Lane and enjoy its record stores and its word famous bagel bakeries.
