Luna Park in Melbourne is one of Australia oldest amusement parks. It opened on 13th December 1912 and has almost continuously been operating ever since (it closed during World War I).

There used to be five Luna Parks around Australia, but only those in Melbourne and Sydney remain. I've never been to the one in Sydney, but here's what it looks like at night when crossing the Sydney Harbour Bridge by train:


The "Mr Moon" face entry is an iconic feature of the St Kilda esplanade (Luna means "moon" in Spanish and Italian). And the Scenic Railway, which travels around the borders of the amusement park, is the oldest continuously-operating roller coaster in the world.


Fact: Sometimes, when there aren't too many people around, Mr Moon eats a few passers by. Their souls are forever trapped in the Ghost Train ride, and they subsist on discarded candy and fairy floss.
