What are the benefits of a side awning?
The first major benefit to having an awning on your vehicle is quick set-up rain shelter. For instance, stop along the way for a bite to eat or rest-up, a pull-out awning is a great quick shelter if it’s raining. There is plenty of room under the awning to sit, set up a table, prepare food and eat it without you and everything you’re using getting wet.
Another big benefit of a vehicle awning is shade, maybe not so much in the UK but there are those odd hot days! However, if you plan to go to Europe an awning is a must-have. On those hot days, you will need some shade, whether you’re stopping for lunch on a road trip or camping without much shelter.
Shade and shelter are the two biggest benefits of a roof rack awning. But there are more benefits if you choose to add available awning accessories to your camping setup. You can purchase bug shelters, awning walls/windbreaks and awning rooms. This will expand the use of your vehicle awning and you will start to wonder how you traveled without it?!
Vehicle side awning size suggestions

2.5m x 2.5m Side Awning
A large 2.5m x 2.5m side awning gives you 6.25m² of sheltered living/catering/sleeping accommodation. This has lots of space and will happily accommodate a table and chairs for 4-6 adults.
This awning is a perfect size for LWB (Long Wheel Base) vehicles. For example, this would include vehicles like; Land Rover Defender 110, Defender 130, VW Transporter, Nissan Navara, Toyota Hilux, Toyota LandCruiser, Mitzibusti L200, Ford Custom, etc.
2.0m x 2.5m Side Awning
With 5m² of shade or shelter, the medium sized vehicle awning is a great shelter for living/catering/sleeping accommodation. This will give 4 adults covered for work or leisure activities.
This 2.0m wide by 2.5m length awning is a suitable size for SWB (Short Wheel Base) vehicles. For example, this would include vehicles like; Land Rover Defender 90, Land Rover Discovery, Suzuki Jimmy, Dacia Duster, Jeep Renegade, estate cars, small vans, etc.
1.5m x 2.0m Side Awning
The small side awning is the perfect shelter for living/catering accommodation and can be mounted on the rear of your vehicle as shown here. With a sheltered area of 3m², this compact awning will be great for keeping 2 adults out of the rain or sun.
The 1.5m wide by 2.0m length roof racking awning is ideal for limited roof length vehicles. For example, VW Caddy, Vauxhall Combo, Ford Custom, saloon cars, small hatchbacks, double cab 4x4s, etc.
Attaching pull-out awning to your vehicle
All vehicle mounting requirements vary but the awnings can be mounted at any 2 or 3 points along its length. This is due to the continuous channels on the back for mounting. A word of advice, make sure you measure the length of your vehicle and your roof rack/roof crossbars, to purchase the appropriate awning for your setup.
