Menorca has plenty of beautiful restaurants available and fantastic hotels serving great food. However, for those in apartments, villas on any self-catering accommodation you’ll definitely want to know what the best Menorca supermarkets are.

Our comprehensive guide to what supermarkets are available on Menorca will make your stay just that little easier.

There are numerous fantastic restaurants in Menorca, B&B’s and other accommodation serving up a fine array of local produce.

But some of you may be staying in one of the numerous self-catering accommodations and will need a supermarket or two. For those in coastal resorts, expect to be paying a premium for food. Primarily for convenience of having the supermarkets on your door stop. But also, a smaller supermarket won’t having the buying power of say, Lidl. Consequently leading to higher prices. So venturing to the larger supermarkets can save you a lot of money.

Menorca Larger Town Supermarkets

Below we’ve initially listed the supermarkets in the larger towns. Here you will find pricing to be more competitive and selection of produce to be better. But if you’re in a coastal resort and haven’t hired a car then visiting these larger town supermarkets may be more difficult.

Mahon Supermarkets

We’ll start with Mahon, the capital city of Menorca. Being the capital there are plenty of smaller supermarkets and shops in and around the city centre. Mahon mini-supermarkets such as Binipreu and Binipreu Bellavista. Or even local delicatessen shops such as De Vins Menorca, fishmongers such as Peixateria Sa Llotja, or even butchers like Carnicería Assalama

However, we want to focus on the largest and best value supermarkets Mahon has to offer.

Lidl Mahon, just outside of the main city on the Me-12 main road. Pretty much directly opposite you also have Eroski Mahon. Both are great discounted supermarket options within close proximity to the centre.

Closer to the centre on the other side of town you have the Spanish staple, Mercadona. Another great option with a large variety of fresh produce. Close by you will be able to find another Eroski, this time the Eroski Centre.

If you’re in Mahon centre be sure to also check out the local fresh product and fish market. Sa Plaça – Mercat de proximitat de Maó and Mercat des Peix.

Whatever you prefer, it’s important to remember you have plenty of choice and availability given the small size of Mahon.

Ciutadella Supermarkets

Moving onto the second city of Menorca, Ciutadella. Similarly to Mahon, there’s plenty of choice available when it comes to supermarkets in Ciutadella.

Once again you have the larger supermarkets of Menorca here. Eroski Ciutadella, Mercadona and Lidl – all within close proximity just outside the centre. They’re near the Me-1 too, so perfect for those venturing out from coastal resorts such as Santo Tomas.

Alternatively there are the choice of inner city Menorca supermarkets in Ciutadella. For example Eroski City, Allorens supermercats and Allorens supermercats in a different location, and Nou Mercat Ciutadella. Not necessarily any smaller than those on the outskirts of the town, but a nice central location.

Not forgetting the markets and local shops. The Mercat Municipal selling a variety of Menorcan local product and artisans goods. Seafood market Peixateria 1895, butchers Salord and diary food store CA NA FAYAS Formatges i embotits.

Plenty of great supermarkets to choose from in and around Ciutadella. This list isn’t exhaustive and like Mahon, you’ll definitely come across more stores as your wandering around the city streets.

Alaior Supermarkets

Being smaller than Mahon and Ciutadella, naturally there is less choice and availability. However Alaior is still one of the larger towns on the island and prices will be better than the coastal resorts. Below we’ve listed a few supermarkets in Alaior for your convenience in the easy to read Alaior supermarkets table below.

For your ease, Binipreu, Cooperative San Crispín, Sa cooperativa del Camp and Hiper Centre Alaior are the largest.

For more artisanal stores, you can try the local cheese store in Formatges Torralba.

Es Mercadal Supermarkets

Another larger inland town smaller than Ciutadella and Mahon. However there still are a variety of Es Mercadal supermarkets available for your next visit and similarly to Alaior and Ferreries, prices here will be better value than the coastal resorts.

The largest supermarkets in Es Mercadal are Eroski City and Super Mercadal. Sa Figuera and Botiga Ca’n Diego are smaller natural, farm style supermarkets.

Not forgetting smaller independent stores like the pastry shop S’Ambosta Obrador, or even a butchers in Carnisseria, Menjars Febrer.

Ferreries Supermarkets

The last inland town mentioned on our Menorca supermarkets list. There are a number of supermarkets in Ferreries to visit and prices here will again be better value than some of the smaller, coastal resorts on the island.

Other local stores available include a butchers in sa Carnisseria and Febrer Serra SL, fruit and veg shop Ca Na Clara.

Moving into the coastal resort supermarkets in Menorca. Expect prices to be slightly more expensive here. The size of supermarkets to be smaller and availability of produce to be relatively limited in comparison.

With the coastal Menorca resorts having a large influx of summer tourists you can find plenty of small supermarkets. These should be good enough for smaller shops or topping up on items you may need, or even the little treat.
