Guanella Pass Reopens for Summer Season: Scenic Byway Awaits Visitors

CLEAR CREEK COUNTY, COLORADO The Guanella Pass Scenic Byway, a popular destination known for its stunning alpine views near Georgetown, Colorado, will reopen on Thursday, May 23rd, 2024 at 4:00 p.m. after its annual winter closure. This reopening is made possible through the coordinated efforts of Clear Creek County Road and Bridge, Park County Road and Bridge, and the United States Forest Service.





The Guanella Pass Scenic Byway stretches 24 miles, offering visitors breathtaking views and access to several mountain peaks including Mt. Bierstadt, Mt. Blue Sky, and Squaretop Mountain. Outdoor enthusiasts can enjoy various activities such as hiking, camping, and auto-touring.

Camping and Hiking Opportunities

Visitors can find first-come, first-serve camping spots at Leavenworth Creek Road, located two miles from the Georgetown side. A high-clearance vehicle is required to access these approximately 10 camping spots. Additional information on camping and other activities can be found on Recreation.gov and Colorado.com.





Popular Day Trips Along Guanella Pass

  1. Silver Dale: Located 1.5 miles from Georgetown, this area offers flat, scenic trail hikes with views of the South Fork Clear Creek, Leavenworth Creek, and the Georgetown Reservoir.
  2. Leavenworth Creek Road: Just 2 miles from Georgetown, this road provides opportunities for hiking, biking, and exploring up to Pavilion Point or the historic Waldorf Townsite.
  3. Clear Lake: Situated 6 miles from Georgetown, Clear Lake offers picnicking, trail walking, and fishing.
  4. Naylor Lake/Silver Dollar Lake Trails: Located 11 miles from Georgetown, these trails offer high-altitude lakes, scenic vistas, and trails suitable for hiking and biking.
