Volunteers Needed: Colorado Fourteeners Initiative Calls for Support on 2023 Projects

DENVER, CO – The Colorado Fourteeners Initiative (CFI) has issued an urgent appeal for volunteers to support the remaining outdoor projects of 2023, addressing the state’s beloved 14,000-foot peaks.

The call comes amidst higher rates of volunteer cancellations and no-shows being experienced by non-profits across Colorado this year. “Volunteer support is crucial to ensure protection of public lands. Please help our crews finish the season strong,” urges the CFI.

Available Volunteer Opportunities:

  • Grays and Torreys Peaks (8/19, 8/20): Participants can join through Volunteers for Outdoor Colorado. Learn more and sign up here.

  • La Plata Peak (8/24-27): An essential project that needs immediate attention. Learn more and sign up here.

  • Handies Peak (8/31 – 9/3; 9/14-17): Two separate opportunities to contribute to this vital peak. Learn more and sign up here.

  • Mt Sneffels (9/25): A one-day opportunity in collaboration with the San Juan Mountain Association. Sign up here.

The initiative underscores the importance of volunteers in the preservation and maintenance of Colorado’s natural landscapes. These volunteer efforts directly contribute to the safeguarding of trails, restoration of eroded areas, and overall protection of public lands.

While CFI’s projects focus on the state’s prominent fourteeners, they encourage volunteering with any local non-profit, emphasizing the collective responsibility to protect and preserve Colorado’s natural beauty.

Those interested in volunteering are encouraged to sign up as soon as possible, as slots for these critical projects may fill quickly. For more information or to sign up for one of the mentioned projects, please visit the Colorado Fourteeners Initiative’s website or reach out to their partnering organizations.
