ORIGINAL STORY: Urgent Search Underway for Lost Hiker and Dog on Mount Antero, Colorado 14er

CHAFFEE COUNTY, CO – An urgent search is currently underway for a missing woman, Allison, last seen hiking on Mount Antero, a well-known Colorado 14er. The Chaffee County Search and Rescue Team, South Division, found Allison’s Jeep near the trailhead but there was no sign of Allison or her Australian Shepherd, Gideon.

Allison, an avid hiker, was last heard from at 9:30 AM yesterday when she sent her mother a photo from the summit. In her final message, she expressed her intention to take an “easy way down”. She has been missing for 30 hours and it is suspected that her phone battery has died and she may have become lost.

Allison was last seen wearing red shorts, a light top, a baseball cap, and striped hiking socks and boots. She was accompanied by her loyal Australian Shepherd, Gideon. She had a black, running-style backpack with her.

Allison’s mother issued a plea for help on social media, asking anyone who might have seen her daughter or her dog, or who has any leads to please come forward. “We are so scared and worried,” she wrote, sharing an image of her daughter and dog on the summit sent just before they lost contact.

Authorities are urging anyone who has been in the vicinity of Mount Antero in the past 36 hours, or who may have seen Allison or Gideon, to reach out as soon as possible.

If you have any information about the case, please contact the Chaffee County Sheriff’s Department immediately by calling (719) 539-2814.

Your information, no matter how seemingly insignificant, may play a critical role in locating Allison and Gideon and bringing them safely home. Any leads are valuable and urgently needed.
