Val d’Isere is perfectly positioned among spectacular slopes, with excellent ski lift connections to neighbouring Tignes and just 5km from the Italian border.

Best ways of getting to Val D'Isere

The most convenient way to get to Val d’Isere is to fly to one of the closest airports. Geneva Airport is usually regarded as the best airport for Val d’Isere, as although it isn’t the closest it offers the most frequent and competitively priced international flights.

There are many different travel options to explore when planning how to get to Val d’Isere, ultimately the best choice will depend on where you are travelling from and your priorities for your trip. Most of our customers are keen to get to their accommodation as quickly as possible, with minimal hassle so they can just relax and take in the scenery.

Flights & Airport Transfers to Val D'Isere

Getting to Val d’Isere from Geneva Airport is easy with our shared transfers and private transfers. Val d’Isere’s nearest airport is 145km away at Chambery, Geneva Airport is also just 190km away or just over 3.5 hours by road. OTHER TRANSPORT OPTIONS

Train to Val D'Isere

Travelling by train to Val d’Isere is another option if you want to avoid flying, just bear in mind that you might need to change trains or get connecting buses and this will involve moving all your luggage between methods of transport. Val d’Isere does not have a train station, however, Bourg St Maurice SNCF is 30km away or around an hour on a local bus.

Allow between 10 and 12 hours to get to Val d’Isere by train from London, depending on your date of travel and the time of day. The Eurostar Snow Train is a slightly faster option taking between 8 and 10 hours, this service operates between Friday and Sunday, and it also stops at Bourg St Maurice. You’ll need to change between Paris Gare du Nord and Gare de Lyon for the quickest route, the transfer takes around 40 minutes on the metro, or you can opt for a taxi if you have a lot of luggage.

Driving to Val D'Isere

Driving to Val d’Isere will take approximately 10.5 hours from Calais, or 12 hours from London (not including channel crossing time). It might be an option if you are keen to make the journey part of your holiday and stop overnight at points along the route. In terms of driving experience, the roads from Calais to Bourg St Maurice are relatively straightforward, becoming steeper and more challenging on the final 30km to Val d’Isere.

The mountain roads are cleared regularly in the winter, but it is still a legal requirement to have winter tyres fitted to your car and a set of snow chains in the boot (and it is important that you also know how to use them). Make sure you budget for parking, which can be quite expensive and is often difficult to find at the ski resort.

One of the important things to think about when considering driving to Val d’Isere is the fact that once you arrive at the ski resort there are plenty of free bus services to get you from place to place. In reality, unless you are planning to travel further afield during your stay, you probably wouldn’t need to use your car.

Coach or bus to Val D'Isere

An overnight coach trip is an option for travellers on a strict budget. During the winter there is a weekly coach service from London to Bourg St Maurice, where you can transfer onto a local bus for the final hour of the journey to Val d’Isere. Travelling by coach from London will take around 20 hours overnight, so you might want to factor in some time to rest, stretch, and recover once you arrive at your accommodation.

Local buses are also available to get you around the resort and the neighbouring ski areas, as well as an efficient network of ski lifts and gondolas, some even have heating and WiFi!
