Best ways of getting to Courchevel

If you are looking at how to get to Courchevel, the quickest and most convenient option is to fly to Geneva Airport. Although it’s not the closest to the resort, Geneva is the best airport for Courchevel as there are regular international flights offering plenty of choice and flexibility to suit your plans.

Deciding how to get to Courchevel will depend on your priorities for your trip, as well as your budget, time constraints and travel preferences. Getting to your destination as quickly and comfortably as possible will mean you can make the most of every moment of your trip, benefitting from the maximum amount of time on the slopes.

Flights & Airport Transfers to Courchevel

The closest airport to Courchevel is Chambery, 1.5 hours away by road. As Chambery is relatively small, fewer airlines offer flights there and it can be more expensive. Geneva is the best airport for Courchevel when travelling from most countries and transferring by road will take around 3 hours. OTHER TRANSPORT OPTIONS

Train to Courchevel

If you don’t mind a slightly longer journey and would prefer to avoid flying, then getting to Courchevel by train might be an option. The resort itself is not on a train line, so you’ll need to get a train to Moûtiers and then spend another hour on a public bus to get to Courchevel, though you should be mindful when checking local transportation connections as these services do not run a full 24 hours service.

The journey from London to Courchevel will take around 11 hours, depending on the day of the week, time of day, and the connecting bus services available. The slightly quicker option is to get the snow train, running Friday to Sunday from London and also stopping at Moûtiers.

If travelling from Paris, you can get to Courchevel slightly faster by transferring between Gare du Nord and Gare de Lyon, involving a 40-minute taxi ride across the city. Bear in mind the amount of luggage and ski equipment you might have with you, and how you’ll get this between transport hubs.

Driving to Courchevel

Driving to Courchevel is a potential travel option if you have a little more time, experience with mountain roads, and the right equipment in your vehicle. The journey from London by road will take around 13 hours, or 10.5 hours from Calais, it’s possible to take a scenic route and make several stops along the way too if you have time.

In the winter seasons, remember it is a legal requirement to have winter tyres on your vehicle and snow chains in your car. You’ll find the route relatively simple until you reach the steeper, twisty roads between Moûtiers and Courchevel. Although the roads are cleared regularly, this can be daunting for some. Our experienced drivers are confident on alpine roads, so booking shared transfers or private transfers will mean you can just relax and enjoy the view.

Once you arrive in Courchevel, free shuttle bus services operate between the resorts, and a network of ski lifts and cable cars also links Courchevel with neighbouring slopes. For this reason, you’d be unlikely to need your car during your stay.  

Coach or bus to Courchevel

Overnight coach services to Courchevel run once a week during the winter season and take just over 20 hours to get from London to Moûtiers. After arriving in Moûtiers you’d then need to get a bus to Courchevel for the final 25km through the mountains, which takes around an hour.

In terms of the best ways to get to Courchevel, it’s worth working out how much time you might sacrifice on the slopes when making your decision. Some people quite enjoy the atmosphere and economy of a coach trip, whereas others prefer to arrive at the resort refreshed, rested and ready to hit the slopes as soon as possible.
