Around 400,000 passengers started the holiday season with Austrian Airlines

Whether visiting family or going on vacation – many used the Christmas season for a flight. Austrian Airlines welcomed around 400,000 passengers on board during the holiday season. With this, Austrian almost took off again in front of Corona level. Romantic city trips to Paris, but also to London and Barcelona were among the top three destinations. Around 29,000 passengers flew with Austrians over the holidays to a warm place. Bangkok and the hot water destinations of Malé, Cancún, and Mauritius were particularly popular destinations.

Over 17,000 passengers on New Year’s Eve and Christmas

“As a red-white-red airline, we are particularly pleased that we were able to bring many Austrians to their loved ones or on vacation over the holidays,” says Michael Trestl, CCO Austrian Airlines. Even at Christmas and at the turn of the year, flight operations were anything but idle. Even on December 24th and 31st, more than 17,000 passengers flew to their destination with Austrian Airlines.

Doubled: Six flights a week took off for Male over the Christmas period

White sandy beaches and turquoise sea – warm water destinations are very popular. For this reason, Austrian Airlines Doubled the frequencies towards the Maldives over the holidays: instead of three, the red-white-red airline took off six planes per week from Vienna Airport to Malé during the holidays. The frequencies to Mauritius and Cancún were also increased by one flight each so that Austrian operated four times a week to Mauritius and three times a week to Cancún. To ensure a relaxing journey, Austrian gave free neck rolls to Economy and Premium Economy Class passengers on night flights on these routes.

Contrasting program Gateway to the Arctic

Since mid-December, those who like it colder have been able to fly with Austrian Airlines to Tromsø, Norway, to see the Northern Lights. The gateway to the Arctic is the youngest of over 80 destinations in the Austrian winter timetable.
