AN INTRODUCTION TO HIMACHAL PRADESH.

               HIMACHAL PRADESH 



Himachal Pradesh is a northern Indian state in the Himalayas. It's home to scenic mountain towns and resorts such as Dalhousie. Host to the Dalai Lama, Himachal Pradesh has a strong Tibetan presence. This is reflected in its Buddhist temples and monasteries, as well as its vibrant Tibetan New Year celebrations. The region is also well known for its trekking, climbing and skiing areas. 


               TOURISM POTENTIAL
 
Himachal Pradesh is located in the northern region of India. The state is surrounded by Jammu and Kashmir on the north, Punjab on the west and the south-west, Haryana on the south, Uttar Pradesh on the south-east, and China on the east.

At current prices, Himachal Pradesh’s gross state domestic product (GSDP) is estimated to be Rs. 1.92 trillion (US$ 24.84 billion) in 2022-23. The state’s GSDP (in Rs.) increased at a CAGR of 7.70% between 2015-16 and 2022-23. The tertiary sector witnessed the fastest growth at a CAGR of 10.76% between 2011-12 and 2020-21.

Total exports from Himachal Pradesh stood at US$ 1,940.34 million in FY22 (until February 2022).

As of March 2022, Himachal Pradesh had a total installed power generation capacity of 4,532 MW, comprising 2,003.26 MW under private utilities, 1,062.21 MW (state utilities) and 1,466.53 MW (central utilities). Himachal Pradesh has immense potential for hydropower as it is naturally blessed with abundant streams and rivers flowing down from towering mountains.


TOURIST ATTRACTIONS IN HIMACHAL PRADESH.

1.SPITI VALLEY 



Spiti is a high-altitude region of the Himalayas, located in the north-eastern part of the northern Indian state of Himachal Pradesh. The name "Spiti" means "The middle land", i.e. the land between Tibet and India. 

SPECIALITY  : Spiti valley is famous for its natural beauty and cultural heritage. Tabo monastery is one of the most prominent attractions in Spiti. The monasteries in Spiti are renowned for spectacular murals, ancient temples, and several stupas.

2.SHIMLA


Shimla is the capital of the northern Indian state of Himachal Pradesh, in the Himalayan foothills. Once the summer capital of British India, it remains the terminus of the narrow-gauge Kalka-Shimla Railway, completed in 1903. It’s also known for the handicraft shops that line The Mall, a pedestrian avenue, as well as the Lakkar Bazaar, a market specializing in wooden toys and crafts.

SPECIALITY: The town is famous for pleasant walking experiences on hillsides surrounded by pine and oak forests. This capital city of Himachal Pradesh is famous for The Mall, ridge, and toy train. With colonial style buildings, the town has relics of ancient past that lend it a distinct look.

3. KASAULI


Kasauli is a small hill town in the north Indian state of Himachal Pradesh. It’s home to gabled colonial-era houses, orchards and green-roofed Christ Church, dating from the mid-19th century. At the southern edge of town, Monkey Point overlooks forests of horse chestnut and Himalayan oak. A small temple also sits atop the hill. Nearby, the Gilbert Nature Trail winds through lush green countryside rich in birdlife.

SPECIALITY : Kasauli is about 27 km from Parwanoo renowned for its apple orchards. The cantonment town is also famous for the Kasauli Brewery, believed to be the oldest functioning distillery for scotch whisky in Asia. Kasauli is also the seat of the renowned Pasteur Institute popularly known as the Central Research Institute.

4.ROHATANG La


Rohtang Pass is a high mountain pass on the eastern end of the Pir Panjal Range of the Himalayas around 51 km from Manali in the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh. It connects the Kullu Valley with the Lahaul and Spiti Valleys of Himachal Pradesh, India. 

SPECIALITY: Known for its scenic beauty, Rohtang Pass holds strategic importance for India. The Pass offers beautiful sights of glaciers, peaks, Lahaul Valley and the Chandra River. The twin peaks of Geypan are also visible from Rohtang. The pass is on the watershed between the water basins of the Chenab River and the Beas River.
