10 Things To Do In Snowdonia In The Rain

Snowdonia’s peaks and coastline are beautiful no matter the weather, but the area does get a lot of Rain. If you’re in Snowdonia on a rainy day there’s still loads you can do – here are our suggestions for things to do in Snowdonia in the rain.

1. Visit Adventure Parc Snowdonia

Although the Adventure Parc is known for their surfing lessons, they actually also have an indoor adventure course. Choose between ninja assault, indoor climbing, high ropes and caving, with prices starting from £18. There’s even a soft play area for the little ones.

If you don’t fancy getting involved, there’s also a spa on site that offers your typical massages and treatments as well as an indoor pool.

2. Learn about Slate

The National Slate Museum explores the heritage of the Snowdonia region, which has a rich history of slate mining. Experience what it was like to work in the quarries in the Victorian era. The museum really encapsulates what it was l.ike in Wales at the time, and is in a beautiful location.

3. Get up close to wildlife

Pili Palas will transport you away from Wales to the tropics, as you get up close to butterflies, insects, and farm animals. A great day out for the family, the site has a cafe, indoor play area and a gift shop to buy a souvenir.

4. Head underground

The Sygun Copper Mine takes you on a self guided tour through underground tunnels and chambers of the old mine. You’ll be able to see amazing copper ore veins and stalagmite formations as you learn about the life of a Victorian copper miner.

5. Get on a steam train

There’s no shortage of steam trains in Snowdonia, and they’re a great way to see the sights without getting wet. Get on the Welsh Highland Heritage Railway or the Ffestiniog Railway at Porthmadog, the Talyllyn Railway at Tywyn or the Llanberis Lake Railway or Snowdon Mountain Railway at Llanberis.

Whichever railway you choose, you’ll be zipping past some amazing views – waterfalls, valleys and tranquil lakes.

6. Get crafty

At the Corris craft center, choose between pottery painting, chocolate making or candle dipping with the experts in the foothills of southern Snowdonia. This makes for a great place to go in Snowdonia when it rains for people of any age; you’ll get to meet some passionate craftspeople and take home something you made!

North Wales has some lovely art galleries that are perfect to spend a rainy day in.

Ffin y Parc is set in a Victorian country house and represents over 40 artists. The exhibits change each month, and they have a lovely onsite cafe.

Or, if you want to see some contemporary art head to Llandudno to MOSTYN, which features amazing modern spaces and some of the best international art.

8. Go to Bounce Below at Zip World

Get out your inner thrillseeker at this amazing underground trampoline park at a disused slate mine. Fun for kids and big kids alike as you jump, bounce and slide your way through the subterranean wonderland.

9. Learn about Welsh gin and whiskey

Aber Falls was North Wale’s first gin and whiskey distillery, based near the amazing waterfall with the same name. A great pick for adults looking for things to do in Snowdonia in the rain, the distillery offers guided tours, tastings plus a shop and cafe.

10. Learn about marine life

Anglesey Sea Zoo is a unique aquarium that gives an insight to the marine life surrounding the United Kingdom. Expect to see jellyfish, seahorse and crabs, as well as a ‘pick your own pearl’ activity where you can watch an oyster being opened before having the pearl set in jewellery.
