Day 1: Journey to Shangarh

Our adventure began early in the morning as we set off from Chandigarh. The journey to Shangarh was smooth and pleasant, thanks to the well-maintained highways. As we left behind the urban landscapes, the scenery gradually transformed into rolling hills and lush greenery. The anticipation of reaching Shangarh heightened with every passing mile.

After several hours of driving, we reached the outskirts of Shangarh. However, the final stretch of the road required some off-roading skills, adding a dash of excitement to our journey. The rugged terrain demanded our attention as we carefully maneuvered through unpaved roads, navigating the undulating landscape. The challenges of the off-road drive were soon forgotten as we were greeted by the awe-inspiring beauty of Shangarh.

Upon reaching Shangarh around 3 PM, we checked into Zostel, a beautiful accommodation option that offered breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains. Zostel, known for its cozy ambiance and friendly staff, provided a perfect base for our exploration. As we settled into our rooms, we couldn’t help but admire the picturesque surroundings that enveloped the property.

We soon discovered that Shangarh had limited dining options. Unfortunately, we couldn’t find a restaurant open during our visit. However, Zostel graciously served us a delicious lunch, allowing us to satiate our hunger. We were pleasantly surprised by the culinary delights offered by Zostel, which exceeded our expectations.

In the evening, we ventured towards the Shangarh Waterfall, located about an hour’s walk from Zostel. The trail to the waterfall took us through charming villages and picturesque landscapes. As we strolled along the path, the sound of rushing water grew louder, building up our excitement. The sight of the cascading waterfall was nothing short of mesmerizing, with water gushing down the rocks, creating a symphony of nature. We spent some time immersing ourselves in the tranquil ambiance and capturing the beauty of the waterfall in our memories and photographs. With the sun slowly setting, we made our way back to Zostel, cherishing the tranquility of the surroundings.

Day 2: Ganjau Thatch Trek

Eager to explore the natural wonders of Shangarh, we embarked on the Ganjau Thatch Trek on our second day. After consulting the staff at Zostel, we decided to hire a local guide for the trek. This turned out to be an excellent decision as the route could be confusing without proper guidance.

Setting off at around 10:30 AM, we began our journey through the breathtaking Thach meadows. The landscape unfolded before us like a painting, with vibrant flowers and lush greenery as far as the eye could see. The trek, although moderately challenging, became an unforgettable experience as we reveled in the serenity of nature.

The local guide shared fascinating anecdotes and stories about the region, enhancing our understanding of the local culture and heritage. We were enthralled by the rich history associated with the Thach meadows and the surrounding areas. The guide also enlightened us about the diverse flora and fauna that thrive in this pristine ecosystem.

After a trek of 3-4 hours, we reached the captivating Ganjau Thatch. The sight of snow-capped mountains amidst the verdant meadows left us awestruck. We marveled at the untouched beauty of the landscape, feeling a profound connection with nature. The tranquil ambiance of Ganjau Thatch provided an ideal setting for a rejuvenating break.

We hadn’t anticipated the trek to take as long as it did, and our lack of packed food became apparent. Feeling hungry, we managed with a few packets of chips, which served as a temporary solution. However, we learned an important lesson about the importance of carrying ample provisions during treks. Despite the unexpected hunger pangs, the experience of being surrounded by such awe-inspiring scenery made it all worthwhile.

On our way back, we opted for a shorter route suggested by our guide, which took us 2 hours and 30 minutes to reach the renowned Shangarh Meadows and the revered Shangchul Mahadev Temple. The meadows, with their vast expanse of greenery, offered a perfect spot for relaxation and rejuvenation. We couldn’t resist capturing the beauty of the meadows through photographs, ensuring that the memories of this idyllic place would remain with us forever.

The Shangchul Mahadev Temple, perched atop a hill, was a testament to the rich history and cultural significance of the region. Dedicated to Lord Shiva, the temple has been a place of worship for generations. We marveled at the intricate architecture and the spiritual ambiance that enveloped the temple complex. As we offered our prayers, we couldn’t help but feel a sense of peace and tranquility.

Day 3: Farewell to Shangarh

With heavy hearts, we bid farewell to the mesmerizing beauty of Shangarh on our third day. Cherishing the memories we had created, we embarked on our journey back to Chandigarh, carrying the essence of this tranquil paradise within us.

As we retraced our path through the scenic landscapes, we couldn’t help but reflect on the beauty and serenity we had experienced in Shangarh. The journey back allowed us to immerse ourselves in the tranquility of nature one last time before reentering the hustle and bustle of city life.

Shangarh, with its ethereal landscapes, remote charm, and the awe-inspiring Shangchul Mahadev Temple, provides an escape from the mundane routines of everyday life. Our three-day itinerary allowed us to immerse ourselves in the natural wonders of the region, offering an unforgettable experience filled with adventure, tranquility, and spiritual enlightenment.

From the off-roading journey to the enchanting waterfall, the Ganjau Thatch Trek through the picturesque meadows, to the visit to the ancient Shangchul Mahadev Temple, each moment in Shangarh left an indelible mark on our hearts. The lack of commercialization and limited dining options added to the rustic charm of this hidden paradise.

As we reluctantly bid farewell to Shangarh, we carried with us the memories of its serene landscapes, warm hospitality, and the spiritual aura that permeated every corner of this enchanting village. Shangarh truly is a haven for those seeking solace in nature’s embrace.
