Gwalior Fort is so Famous But Why?

The Gwalior Fort is the protagonist in the tourist place of Gwalior. The Fort is also known as the hill fort of India and stands on the Gopachal Hill. Once Gwalior Fort was regarded as northern and central India’s most invulnerable fortress. The fort includes many palaces, temples, and historic monuments.

Palaces within the Gwalior Fort

  1. Man Mandir Palace:-Man Mandir Palace built during the region of tomar dynasty by Raja Mansingh. It is the glorious picture of Hindu architecture.
  2. Gujari Mahal:-The Gujari Mahal was also built by Raja Mansingh for his wife Mrignayani (meaning beautiful eyes). The queen demanded from the king the separate Mahal for her living, which should be connected to a continuous water supply through the Ria River. Previously it was a palace of the queen but converted into a museum that includes Hindu and Jain sculptures.
  3. Vikram Mahal:- The Vikram mahal was built by Vikramaditya, the son of Raja Mansingh. Just like his father, he was also devoted to Lord Shiva and he reestablished the temple in front of Vikram mahal which was destroyed during the Mughal period.

TEMPLES

  1. Siddhachal Jain Temple Caves:-These caves are Jain monuments where the beauty of Jainism is shown. Siddhanchal is the historical and holy place for Jainism. A place where Sculpture of god has been defaced and destroyed under the Mughal emperor period but after the fall of the Mughal rule some of the sculptures were repaired and restored.
  2. Teli-ka-Mandir:- In English, it is known as the oilman’s temple. It is the oldest part of Gwalior Fort. Teli ka Mandir is a Hindu Temple built by Emperor Mihira Bhoja in the 11th century. It is one of the tallest temples in the Gwalior fort of 100 feet. The temple is famous for the statue of Lord Vishnu.
  3. Sas-Bahu Temple:- Sas-Bahu Temple is located in the eastern side of Gwalior Fort. The temple is known as the twin temple; a larger temple was made for King’s wife as she was dedicated to Lord Vishnu (meaning a thousand arms). But after the marriage of his son, the daughter-in-law was devoted to lord shiva. Two temples were made for sas and bahu which were known as Sas Bahu temple. Both the temples are entirely carved with deities, human, and animal figures.
