Travel to America | Visa Guide for the USA for Filipinos

Many Filipinos have dreams of traveling to the United States, but the strict requirements for obtaining a USA visa can keep them from pursuing their goals.

This Step-by-Step Guide to Applying For A USA Visa For Filipinos breaks down the requirements and gives useful tips for putting together a solid application.

UPDATED: A Step-By-Step Guide To Applying For A USA Visa For Filipinos

The first step in applying for a USA visa is to register at the U.S. Consular Affairs’ Visa Website. Then, you must complete the DS-160 Form, pay the Visa Application fee, and confirm payment.

You must also be ready to provide supporting documents that prove your ties to the Philippines.

Here is how you can apply for a USA Visa as a Filipino.

Register at the U.S. Consular Affairs Visa Website

The Bureau of Consular Affairs is responsible for issuing visas and passports to U.S. citizens, managing the Diversity Visa Lottery, and providing other services to U.S. citizens living abroad.

In addition to issuing visas, the Bureau also issues passports and manages the Diversity Visa Lottery.

The US Department of State’s STEP traveler registration service is a free, secure online service that helps travelers register for visas. The website allows travelers to enter personal information such as name, address, contact details, and email addresses.

It also offers an option to register as a group. This feature allows travelers to list multiple family members or friends as points of contact in case of an emergency.

You need to select the following:

  • Visa Type: Nonimmigrant Visa
  • Post: Manila
  • Visa Category: Business/Tourism
  • Visa Class: B1/B2

Accomplish the DS-160 Form

Another essential step in applying for a USA visa for Filipinos is to fill out and submit the DS-160 Form, also known as the Nonimmigrant Visa Electronic Application Form.

Once you’ve filled out the DS-160 Form and submitted it online, you must submit a digital passport photo of yourself to accompany the application.

Many passport photo services can offer soft copies of your picture. You must also bring one of these to the Interview

Pay the Visa Application Fee

Next, applicants must pay the required fee for the visa. This is typically around $160, or Php 8,550. This can be paid over the counter or online.

Once the fee has been paid, an applicant must print the confirmation page. After that, you need to confirm the application fee by clicking here!

Book your Interview, Appointment Date

The visa application process can be quite daunting, but knowing what to expect can help you prepare for your visit. After you’ve paid the fee, it is recommended to wait for at least 4 hours before booking an interview appointment date.

Here is how you can book the appointment dates:

  • Online booking
  • Select your preferred dates and print out the confirmation email
  • You can also Call (02) 548 8223 or (02) 792 8988 to book your appointment.

Prepare The Required Documents

If you’re applying for a visa from the US, you should prepare the required documents before attending your interview. These documents prove your financial capacity and ties to your country of origin.

You should make sure that all the documents you submit are original. Remember that you may lose your visa application if you’re not prepared.

You must bring with you your appointment letter, DS-160 confirmation page, and a recent photograph. Moreover, you need to have the necessary documentation for your application.

You need to provide a copy of your most recent bank statement and employment certificate as proof of your financial capacity. Here’s the list of required documents:

  • Passport(s)
  • Travel Itinerary (flight and hotel)
  • Include previous and current passports
  • DS-160 Confirmation page
  • Deposit receipts
  • Appointment confirmation
  • Soft copy of 2×2 photograph
  • Certificate of Employment
  • Income Tax Return
  • Bank Certificate
  • Sample Itinerary
  • Documents of previous visit/visa to the U.S.

Tip: To help you have a more fixable trip and get travel docs, you may want to use a dummy ticket – for this, they provide all of these dos.

Attend your Interview at the US Embassy

If you’re a Filipino citizen and plan to visit the USA, you must attend your interview at the US Embassy. A Consular officer conducts the interview. You should prepare the necessary documents for your interview.

Failure to do so can delay your visa application. To prepare for your interview, you must have your appointment letter, DS-160 confirmation page, and recent photograph. In addition, you should bring your current passport and all your old passports.

You should always arrive 20 minutes before your scheduled interview, and be sure to leave any electronics in your vehicle. You can visit the nearest cafe if you wish to use your cell phone.

You should also remember to bring only the items needed for the interview. You cannot bring any other items, including a bag or sharp objects. You can only bring documents that are related to your application.

Also, there is no facility where you can store your personal items during the interview.

Additional Tips for Applying for a US Visa

Be Confident

While preparing for the US Visa interview, it’s always best to keep your answers short and to the point. Avoid giving vague answers or reciting a prepared speech. You can avoid nervousness by dressing appropriately for the interview.

Business casual or business suit attire is fine but avoid overly formal wear. Also, be sure to smile. The interviewer will notice your body language, so you don’t want to look too glum or nervous.

Having a good attitude will go a long way toward helping you get approved. It’s important to be confident when you meet with the consular officer.

Remember, a positive attitude can make or break a US visa application. Avoid arguing with the officer, but make sure to be polite and understand his or her needs.

Dress Appropriately

If you’re looking to study in the US, it’s important to present yourself in the best possible light. The interview process can be challenging, but dressing professionally and appropriately can give you the upper hand.

Dressing well will convey confidence and show you’re serious about your goals.

Although there is no strict dress code for the American visa interview, you should wear a smart suit. For men, this means a tailored suit, while for women, an elegant dress.

However, the most important thing is to be comfortable. You can choose smart clothes to wear to the interview, but make sure they are comfortable. Being uncomfortable can cause you to be nervous.
