Varna: Sightseeing and Activities

The first stop on our world trip

Let's just have a good time!

On 25.02.22 the time had finally come, our flight via Vienna to Varna started and our open-end journey had started. We were very happy, not only because we were travelling to a country that was completely new to us, but also because we met our good friend Romy, who had been studying there for many years. Unfortunately, our luck ran out during the flight to Varna, Lukas' backpack was delayed for two days.

This should not spoil our good mood. On the first day, Romy showed us Bulgaria's second-largest city after Sofia, introduced us to her fellow students and, after a fun game of bowling, we dived into the nightlife. We dived into the nightlife just as the locals. They danced their folk dance to pop music in the bar next to the bowling alley, in the middle of the shopping centre. Fun to look at. The evening ended in the Arrest. Here, too, the mood was at a good level.

But now to the actual topic of this article!

1. Moonlight

The Moonlight is a bar and restaurant with an outdoor thermal pool. Located directly on the beach, it invited us to run into the sea in winter temperatures and then jump into the 40° hot thermal pool. A super nice feeling, not only for the blood circulation, but also for the three of us after an evening of nightlife.

Price: 5 Leva (2,50€ per person)

2. Mr. Babá

Located at the yacht harbour in an old three-master sailing ship is the Mediterranean seafood restaurant Mr. Babá. As you know, we love food and we were looking forward to this visit. A very good restaurant in a foreign city, with a beautiful flair, what could be better? We had a seafood platter for two with grilled and garlic fried Tiger Prawns, Squid, Lemon Calamari and Mussels. Baba!

Price: 60 leva (€15.34 p.p.)

3. 43.12 Café

If you don't have anything for breakfast in Varna in the morning, we recommend a visit to 43.12 Café. Not only the café, but also the menu is very modern. Lukas, in particular, needs a good breakfast to start the day and we definitely found one. Our choice was Royal Benedict: 2 poached eggs, double cream cheese, smoked salmon, hollandaise sauce, chives and capers served on sourdough brioche slices.

Price: 14 leva (€7.16)

4. Arrest Bar

We have already mentioned that we ended in Arrest. But we didn't end up in jail as you may have thought, Arrest is a bar ;D. With a 7-minute walk from Mr. Babá, definitely combinable! Here you can let the evening take its course with students and locals. All the people were friendly and in a good mood. Besides a game of billiard, we drank dirty martinis and had lots of fun with new friends.

Price: Priceless!

5. Train ride to Sofia

To be honest, we started the 7-hour train ride to Sofia not entirely voluntarily. Our flight from Varna to Istanbul was cancelled due to bad weather conditions. However, we didn't regret it, the journey to the capital was a spectacular one through 4 seasons. Once across the country, we drove through sunshine, snow, bare mountains and spring pastures. A breathtaking end to a wonderful weekend.

Price: 23,47 Leva (12€)

You have already found out where we are going next. See you in the next post.
