PM Instructs to Expedite Work on the BRT Green Line Project

Karachi: To relieve Traffic congestion in Karachi, the city administration has appealed to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for assistance. The administration has requested two specific directives to ease traffic problems in the city.

Firstly, they seek permission for heavy vehicles to use the Lyari Expressway. Currently, heavy vehicles are barred from using the expressway by the National Highway Authority (NHA), which insists that the expressway is designed only for cars and light transport vehicles.

Secondly, the city administration has urged the Prime Minister to expedite the stalled development work on the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Green Line extension project on M.A. Jinnah Road. The incomplete development work has led to severe congestion on M.A. Jinnah Road, affecting the smooth traffic flow in the area.

Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab, in a letter addressed to the Prime Minister, highlighted the urgency of the situation. He stated that a recent engagement with city authorities confirmed that the Lyari Expressway could accommodate heavy traffic.

Mayor Wahab has urged the Prime Minister to intervene and resolve Karachi’s traffic congestion issues. He cited the Prime Minister’s successful development initiatives in Lahore and across Pakistan and expressed hope for similar transformative changes in Karachi.
