I know this as I have friends who shared their personal experiences during their pregnancy period. But, it is even more exciting if you travel with your baby with you. 1. Check Policies: Insurance Carriers, Transportation Carriers

Our first list on the tips for traveling while pregnant is considering travel insurance. Airlines discourage pregnant travelers to travel after 36 weeks of pregnancy. So, before booking a seat, contact your carrier and ask about their policy for pregnant travelers. Each airline has its own policy. Ask if you will need a recommendation from your immediate doctor mentioning your due date or labor date. But I guess it is still the best option to secure one.

Moreover, another important thing to remember is to check your health insurance plan. Check the coverage of the plan. If you don’t have one, I am highly advising you to get insurance. Just in case you will be needing any medical assistance or you give birth during your Trip, you are secured and safe. I know some countries are mandating all incoming travelers to secure insurance. If they don’t, you may want to secure one for you covering your maternity. You have to be fully covered, fully secured, fully safe, and fully insured.

If you are traveling abroad or outside the country, check if you require a supplemental policy for coverage overseas. Consider all the necessary and required policies for pregnant travelers. Ask your insurance agent and mention your situation. Be transparent to your agent. Don’t hide your child to be. Always remember that it is always better to be ready and secure than crying and being sorry after.

2. Travel When You’re Most Comfortable

Understand your situation that you are traveling while you are pregnant. If time doesn’t look good for you to go on a vacation, then maybe you may want to consider postponing your trip.

3. Book an Aisle Seat When You Fly

I know that you are a window lover girl. But, during your pregnancy period, forget about it. Get an aisle seat. But, don’t panic if you don’t get it on the check-in counter. Politely, ask your neighbor seating in the aisle seat if you can swap seats. If you are not lucky in asking, then ask him or her to let you pass at least if you need to stand up to use the lavatory or stretch your numb legs.

I have some friends who traveled in the past during their pregnancy period. I salute them for managing to travel during their bumpy days. They always request an aisle seat in the plane.

If you are thinking to fly while you’re pregnant, reserve an aisle seat ahead of time – even if you have to pay additional for having it. It will be worth it. Secure yourself first. Having an aisle seat will give you ease in getting up and walking around, and heading to the lavatories for the many bathroom breaks you’ll likely need during your flight.

If you have a good budget, you may want to take advantage of the business class. Business-class will help ease your trip. You will be more than comfortable on your trip. 4. Pack Healthy Snacks and Stay Hydrated, Drink Water

You are feeding yourself and the precious baby inside your womb. Bring your snacks and water. You can’t be dehydrated during your trip. Pack some fruits and healthy food. Long trip or short trip, you need food and water. I suggest having both sweet and salty snacks in your bag; you never know when cravings strike! Never ever pack or bring food that is not good for you. All food should be natural and as much as possible without added preservatives. Think of your baby and not only yourself. You may crave uncooked and raw fish but due to your condition, forget about it for now until you give birth.

Remember, I said to drink water and not alcohol. Alcohol can easily lead to dehydration. Generally, drinking alcoholic beverages is not totally safe!

5. Travel with Someone You Trust

Do not travel alone. If you are thinking to travel alone, stop it. I wouldn’t recommend you to go far alone. It is too risky. Solo traveling is not highly advisable for a pregnant traveler. Bring your partner, husband, boyfriend, friends, or family. Don’t put yourself at risk. Travel with someone you fully trust.

Never ever leave the house without someone with you. You never know what may happen along the road. In case of emergency, there is an immediate someone who could help you out.

6. Don’t Overbook Yourself

Adventure is a lot of fun pregnant or not. However, always remember that your energy levels may be lower by the time you’re about to leave.

Plan your trip very well. Do not overbook yourself. Make sure to have a break for every adventure you do. Find time to relax. You may even want to plan a relaxation-themed journey. For example, book a beach sightseeing or a resort with a spa specialized for pregnant women like you.

Even if you are a pro traveler, resist the urge to overdo things while traveling. Really, you don’t have to witness every single event or visit every single tourist attraction. Manage to make things gently and slowly and not to overload your trip schedule. Make sure that you have enough rest and sleep time.

No woman can afford to travel with heartburn, headaches, and other pregnancy-related problems. Moreover, you may include whatever you want to pack. For example, medicine for heartburn, stomach ache, headache, etc. Consider packing the medicines you most frequently use.

8. Bring Your Medical Records with You

Along with your first-aid kit, bring your medical records too. Don’t forget to bring a copy of your health records. For example, pregnancy-related medical records. Calling your doctor to send you your medical record may take time unlike when you already have a hard or soft copy of it. Grab a clean and neat envelope and put all together your records there.

9. Bring Sanitizing Wipes and Gel

Be and stay clean. Bring hand alcohol, sanitizer, wipes, and gel. Put them in a small packing cube. Make sure to close them very well to avoid leakage. Separate them from your valuable documents like your visa, passport, medical records, etc.

10. Keep Car Rides Short

Are you traveling using your car? If you are planning a road trip, especially long-distance, it is recommendable to stop from time to time. I would not recommend you to go on a ride for the whole day. Make some stops along the road. You may want to grab a coffee and grab some healthy snacks while resting. Moreover, if you are traveling for a couple of weeks, make sure to make stops. For example, if you are traveling from London to Geneva, you may want to stop in Paris for a day or two to rest. You can stop in Paris and see what they have there. This way, you can see more things and relax. It is not easy to ride while you are pregnant.
