Thamel is a complete place for tourists and the shops are targeted at tourists. While walking on the street of Thamel you will see various types of shops you can find such as trekking gear, souvenir shops, books, restaurants, and many more. Another irritating thing in Thamel is the street guides, each chowk they will come close to and ask Hello My friend? How are you? Where are you from? Better to stay away from such street guides. Because they want to talk with you but their unlimited goal is to put you in the trap to buy somethings from shops. They are doing this because they will get some commission from those shops. So that it’s better to stay away from the street guides. But there are some street guides are who are helpful and informative as well. 

Do not go anywhere in a Taxi without knowing the price. 

This is a common scam for tourists everywhere in the world and Thamel Kathmandu is also not different. So if you are taking a taxi to your destination, first you fix the price and then get in. Otherwise, you have to pay way more than the usual price. Not only in Thamel each place in Kathmandu where you have to negotiate for the taxi to get a better price. Especially the tourist places like Kathmandu Durbar Square, Bouddha, Swyambhu, Pashupatinath, etc. Nowadays many ride-sharing platforms can be your reliable source. 

Avoid dance bars and Massage parlors

Thamel is a popular place in Kathmandu for nightlife activities. There are multiple things you can witness such as nightclubs, dance bars, massage parlors, and dohori sajh. As a traveler, you may have experienced to go nightclubs and dance bars. However, the understanding of the dance bars in Kathmandu might be very different. If you go to a dance bar and enjoy the dance performance. You will be surprised to see the bill at the end. And it might be a bitter experience so that, so this is one of the things, you should avoid in Thamel.
