ABC Trek – Journey to the Base Camp of the world’s 10th-highest peak

The best time to do the ABC trek.

Nepal has four different weather seasons. The spring season, the summer season, the autumn season, and the winter season. The spring season is the dry season, on the other hand, the summer season is the wet season. And the autumn season is between wet and snowy so it’s also a good time. The winter season is very cold and snowy in the mountain area.

Therefore, in general, the best season to do the ABC trek is spring and autumn.

Autumn season – September, October, and November

What kind of permit need to do the ABC trek?

Abc trek is inside the Annapurna Conservation Area so an ACAP permit is mandatory. And also requires a TIMS Card (trekking information management system). ACAP permit will cost 3000 rupees per person and a TIMS card will cost $20 per person.

Abc trek is not an extreme trek like Everest base camp or the annapurna circuit. Although it requires some good quality trekking equipment to accomplish this trek. Because need to do ups and down on the mountain trails. Lower elevation from 850m to 4130m to achieve the final destination. How much it does cost for ABC Trek?

The cost of this trek is varying on how long you would like to trek, via Poon Hill or directly via Ghandruk or Ghinu danda. Because days will determine the expense as long you travel you need more cash on hand. The fixed prices are the trekking permits. ACAP permit will cost $30, TIMS Card $20, and the Poon Hill entry ticket will cost rs 150 for foreigners. However, Nepalese tourists do need to pay for conservation permits to do the ABC trek.

The cost will depend on the types of transportation you use. Firstly need to travel to Pokhara from Kathmandu. There are two types of transportation available – fly to Pokhara and take a road. Even on road, there are two types of vehicles available – tourist buses and local buses or microbuses. To fly to Pokhara will take around 30 minutes and the bus will take around 7/8 hours. Flight tickets will cost 100 plus USD and the bus will differ from $10 to $25.

Then driving from Pokhara to the trekking starting point will add a cost to your budget. There is only one road to go and you can choose public or private transportation. Public transportation will cost way cheaper than the private one. So it all depends on which one you like.

Another thing is having a guide or porter with you for this excursion. A guide can charge per day $30 to $40 and a porter will get in around $20 to $25 per day. Then lodging and meals will sum up the expense to your trekking budget to Annapurna Base Camp.
