We have visited Manuel Antonio several times in the many years we have lived in Costa Rica. We always try to stay at a different hotel to really get a feel for the area. This list of the 29 best places to stay contains all of the places we have loved or have come highly recommended to us by others. 

Manuel Antonio hotel options range from high-end luxury resorts to hostels, to villa rentals to condo rentals. Basically, there is something for all budgets and interests in this beach-front paradise town.

Layout of Manuel Antonio

Manuel Antonio is a beach town located on the Central Pacific Coast of Costa Rica. Often people refer to Manuel Antonio and the town of Quepos somewhat interchangeably. In actuality, they are (kind of) two different places. 

Quepos is the name for the overall area here and the larger town located just off of the highway. You will pass through this town on your way to Manuel Antonio. Quepos has several grocery stores, a gas station, ATM’s, and the main marina in the area. 

After you pass through Quepos you will come to a hilly and slightly curvy road through the town of Manuel Antonio. Many hotels, vacation rentals, and restaurants are located on this road with lush jungles and Pacific Ocean views. 

As you continue on this road you will wind down to the beach and center of Manuel Antonio. At the very end of town you will find Manuel Antonio National Park. 

There is only one road in and out, so once you hit Manuel Antonio National Park you will have to turn around to head back out to the main highway.

We suggest staying in Manuel Antonio instead of Quepos for the better vibes.

However, since Manuel Antonio and Quepos are used somewhat interchangeably as the name for this area, you will need to look at a map to see where a particular hotel or vacation rental is located.

Makanda by The Sea Hotel, exclusively for adults, is a design-forward retreat in Manuel Antonio. It’s an oasis where luxury meets the pristine beauty of Manuel Antonio.

If you are looking for a mid-price range Manuel Antonio hotel we suggest the following places. There are a lot of places available, so we had to be very selective. 

We created this list based on a few qualifications.

1. Is it a hotel?
2. Is it actually in Manuel Antonio and near the beach?
3. Are the property and rooms nice? 
4. Does it have overall positive reviews?

We gave preference to places we have stayed in that have a pool, good cancellation policies, and in-room AC units (because, trust us, you’ll want AC).

Hotel Villas Nicolas, exclusively for adults, is a serene getaway in Manuel Antonio. Even though this place has a really peaceful ambiance, it is conveniently located next to the main road.

Just be careful walking on the road here, especially at night. It is somewhat curvy and sometimes people drive faster than they should here.

Another adult only property. Manuel Antonio has a lot of them! 

Tico Tico Villas’ property showcases a mix of simplicity and functionality. It is perfect for travelers who want a relaxed stay.

Hotel Playa Espadilla is a good escape situated just a stone’s throw from Playa Espadilla Beach and the national park.

Budget-Friendly Hotels and Hostels

These hotels and hostels are perfect for those of you who are trying to stick to a tight budget during your trip to Manuel Antonio.

Most of these cheap hotels have private rooms as well as shared dorms. 

Unfortunately, because this area is so popular, there are only a couple of budget-friendly places to stay.

Planet B Hostel
