In 2024, Indians are traveling throughout the globe more than ever before. According to surveys, our total travel expenditure is expected to reach $410 billion by 2030. Among several countries, Thailand has been attracting a lot of tourists lately. This Southeast Asian destination has been on almost every Indian’s bucket list. 

Thailand’s popularity among Indians can be attributed to several factors, such as affordable food, accommodation, sparkling nightlife, etc. Reaching this destination is just a four-and-a-half-hour flight from Delhi.

Another reason could be Thailand’s influence on social media. Many Indian travel vloggers have showcased Thailand as the ultimate “party heaven.” This has compelled numerous Indians to choose Thailand as a vacation destination to relax and rejuvenate from hectic schedules. 

Thailand’s popularity further grew because it declared a visa-free entry policy for Indian citizens. The policy was introduced on 10 November 2023 and was set to expire on 10 May 2024. However, the Thai government has extended the visa-free entry until 11 November 2024. 

The Thai Embassy shared the news via its official X handle. This post mentioned that “the Royal Thai Cabinet has approved the extension of the temporary tourist visa exemption for Indian and Taiwan ordinary passport holders to enter Thailand and stay for not exceeding 30 days, effective from 11 May—11 Nov 2024.”

Thailand has extended visa exemptions for Indian and Taiwanese residents, which has increased the number of tourists from India. Between November 2022 and April 2023, around 7,55,000 Indians visited Thailand. The number of tourists exceeded 9,60,000 between November 2023 and April 2024 because of the Thai government’s move.
