Sycamore Falls-The Hidden Gem of Arizona’s Grand Canyon

Who doesn’t like taking a break from their hectic schedule and indulging themselves in nature? For people like this, Sycamore Falls is like a paradise. Situated in the small town of Williams, Arizona and being close to the world-famous Grand Canyons, Sycamore Falls is a sight to behold. It is a 21-mile-long scenic canyon located 1.5 miles south of Grand Canyon.  The canyon is surrounded by a lush green forest that gives a sense of freedom. It is one of the most beautiful places you’ll ever visit, people have given it the moniker of ‘Nothern Arizona’s Best Kept Secret’.

Trekking To Sycamore Falls

The start of the trekking trail for Sycamore Falls is just ¼ mile away from the parking lot. There you will see a sign saying ‘Sycamore Rim Trail’ just on the left of it is the trailhead of the trek. You can also find washrooms and restrooms there. This is a long trek so if you’re looking for a smaller trek then you should look for a sign that says ‘Sycamore Falls Trail’.  This trail is relatively short and it will only take you an hour to reach the falls from this trail.

Truth be told, the trail to Sycamore Falls is one beautiful trek. It takes you through a place called Paradise Forks where the trail gets divided into 2 trails going extreme left and extreme right. Both of those trails will lead you to waterfalls and basalt cliffs. If you go right you will see Basalt cliffs, and below them is a stone pond where the water cascades giving the pool a deep emerald colour. Because not many people know about this place, there are chances that you and your friend will be the only person there.

Now, if you want to go to the other waterfall, all you have to do is take the path on the left, and that will take you to another 70ft deep waterfall. But keep in mind that these waterfalls are seasonal, if you visit in winter then there is a chance that both the waterfalls will be frozen. So it’s highly recommended that you visit this place in Summer or in Fall.

Other Things To Do On Your Visit

There are many things to do on your visit to Sycamore Falls. The Basaltic walls we mentioned become a place to do advanced mountain climbing and Slacklining. Even if you’re not into Rock climbing, seeing this activity is entertaining. That being said, make sure that you visit during the dry season so that there is no water on basaltic walls.

You can also hike to many other places. The abovementioned Paradise Forks is also the starting point of 5 different trails, the easiest of which is a 1.65-mile trail to Vista Point. You can also visit the world-famous Grand Canyons where you can find multiple other trails to other canyons and places like Sycamore Falls. You can also enjoy other tourist attractions like the cave systems in Arizona

How Can You Reach Sycamore Falls

You can reach the Sycamore Falls easily by your car. ll you have to do is take exit 178 off of I-40 which is east of Williams. Then head south on Garland Prairie Road. It will soon turn into FR 141 which is a well-maintained forest service road that you’ll have to follow for the next 9 miles then take a right on White Horse Lake Rd and follow for another 3 miles to a parking lot situated near the base of the trailhead.

You can also find Sycamore Falls by reaching out for your phone and putting ‘Sycamore Falls’ in your GPS. You will have the directions to the parking lot, situated at the base of the fall.

The Best Time To Visit Sycamore Falls

Sycamore Falls is a seasonal location, meaning you will see different landscapes at different times of the year. As we mentioned above, if you visit this place in winter chances are that the fall will be frozen. So the best time to visit Sycamore Falls is winter and witness its full flow is in either spring or rainy season, i.e. July to September. But we recommend that you visit Sycamore Falls in spring when there is little to no chance of rain because when rain pours, the trail gets all slippery and it will be very hard for you to trek there.

Final Thoughts

Sycamore Falls is one of the best places to visit on your next vacation to North Arizona. Places like the Grand Canyon and Sedona are the most visited places when it comes to tourism in North Arizona but if you want to spend some time in utmost peace and the vicinity of a beautiful waterfall then you should visit Sycamore Falls and have a time of your life.
