Carnival
Staged in February each year, carnival parades take place in major provinces across the country every Sunday afternoon until the first Sunday in March, with celebrations held from 5pm until nightfall. Each area has its own distinctive carnival costumes and personalities based on local folklore traditions dating back centuries. Independence Day
Celebrated on 27th February each year, the Dominican Republic’s Independence Day is marked with parades across the country. Espíritu Santo
Espíritu Santo is a celebration of the island’s African heritage that is staged in the first or second week of June. Festivities take place across the nation, although the most intriguing celebrations are generally held in the town of Villa Mella near Santo Domingo. Here, festivities are accompanied by traditional African music and instruments, including Congo drums.
Cabarete Kite Festival
