Finding the inner peace

Davos, Switzerland “, a place of heart. I’ll be honest with you. In my opinion, there are definitely more beautiful towns / villages in the Swiss Alps than Davos. But what Davos has to offer scenically is simply indescribable. Hiking ? Biking? Both are no problem!

Whether it is a hike in the region of “Davos Klosters” or “Davos Dorf”. If you look at the map you will discover an incredible number of hiking trails. Most of them are accessible without a cable car. One of my favorite places near Davos is “Davos Sertig”. You can easily reach the beautiful Walser village by bus or by car.

The Sertigta l has something very special, beautiful and indescribable. Something that you have to experience by yourself before you can understand all these words.

Already on the outward journey you notice that this valley is a valley full of power. The Sertigbach, which usually meanders wildly through meadows and forests, the lush green meadows grazed by the cows, the light wind that strokes the landscape.

If you just pay attention to these sounds and enjoy the view of the imposing mountain peaks, you will soon notice that this is the perfect place to slow down. And all so close from Davos.

Start in the Walser village

Similar to the village in the neighboring valley ( Davos Monstein ), Davos Sertig was also populated and built by the Walser. Where there were forests hunderds of years ago, there are now meadows. These areas were cleared by the Walser for livestock farming and are still used today.

In Davos Sertig, which can also be reached by post bus, the leisurely slow-down walk starts. Already the exploration of Sertig is worth it. With the white church and the sweet wooden houses in the “Valais style”, the village is made for romantics. A place to be.

After the visit of Sertig you stroll along the road in the direction of Sand, where there is also a parking lot available (1CHF / h parking fee). The arrival by post bus is much more pleasant and a further advantage is that you can rent scooters (16CHF) when walking back to the reception at Walserhuus. From there you can drive to Davos (return at Restaurant Mühle or Reithalle Frauenkirch. A real adventure! Walserhuus is also a great place to stop for a bite to eat, according to the reviews on Tripadvisor.

To the waterfall

From sand it takes about 20 minutes until you reach the waterfall (marked with a sign). Thanks to the many seats this is the ideal walk to slow down. Even during the high season Davos Sertig generally has very few people.

The mixture between the power of the waterfall, the noise of the water and the picture-book landscape make this spot an indescribable place. And also the colored meadows with the pink alpine roses and blue or violet gentians are another highlight that you can observe while watching during a break.

The waterfall consists of three steps and is embedded in the unique mountain world.

If you are looking for a hike near Davos, then you can also start your adventure here. By the way, Davos Sertig is also a good starting point for hikers, for example to the Lai da Ravais-ch at the Sertig pass. But in this report I will go into detail about the walk to the waterfall only.

Back to the starting point it is only about 30 minutes or you want to experience the adventurous scooter descent to Davos (15 minutes from the waterfall to Walserhuus).

Injured cow – and then?

On the way back we can make an interesting but sad observation. A helicopter arrives. What will he do?

“Could it be that a cow was injured far up in the mountains”, I asked my companion.

And indeed!

The helicopter flies towards the mountain, stays in the air for a while and comes back with a cow. The cow turns in the air as if it were a merry-go-round for real adventurers. Of course the animal was stunned before the flight.

Down on the ground the farmer and a veterinarian are already waiting to inspect the cow. Let’s hope for a happy ending!

The Swiss Air Rescue Service (REGA) alone flies more than 1000 missions a year, recovering injured or dead cows. That’s 10% of all missions. The number becomes more impressive when you thank the cows are only for 12 weeks on the alp and then going back to the valley.

Even if a minute’s flight by helicopter costs around CHF 45, membership for the family (private or farms), including the cows, is only CHF 70 expensive – which is almost a gift.

“Davos Sertig” ant the “Sertig Valley” – a valley of romance and adventure for hiking in Davos.
