Check Out These Fall Festivals in Philadelphia!

Check Out These Fall Festivals in Philadelphia! Fall in Philadelphia means the welcoming of cool air, beautiful bursts of fall foliage, and a slew of autumnal-themed events for you and your family to enjoy. This year’s festival include some annual family favorites as well as a few special events. Here is a short list of some of our favorite festivals to check out around town.

Terror Behind the Walls at Eastern State Penitentiary
September 16-Novermber 5th

This annual event takes place at the Eastern State Penitentiary, a massive gothic, castle-like structure in the Fairmont Neighborhood. It is known to be one of America’s largest and top-rated haunted attractions. Once upon a time the Eastern State Penitentiary was one of the most famous and expensive prisons in the county. While it was in operation it had a reputation for being a rough and dangerous place. The creators of the haunted house have built off of the stories of the hauntings that are said to take place on location and have created a terrifying experience that is sure to stay with you long after you leave.

The Philadelphia Honey Festival
September 9-11th

This annual festival began in 2010 to accompany the placement of a historic marker that was erected to honor Philadelphia-born Lorenzo L. Langstroth. Langstroth is well-known in beekeeping circles because he invented the first movable frame hive design that is used to collect honey by the majority of keepers throughout the country. The Philadelphia Beekeepers Guild quickly allied with three historic venues to offer an annual gathering that focuses on games, exhibits, art, and activities for children of all ages. This family-friendly event is typically held the weekend after labor day and features an evening Honey Happy Hour on Friday (for those who are 21-and-over) to kick-off the event, along with a number of “after-school” activities for the kids earlier in the day.

The PHS Pop-Up Gardens
Now through September 30th

The Philadelphia Horticulture Society has launched two pop-up beer gardens this year at the Viaduct Rail Park in Callowhill and in the Graduate Hospital on South State Street. These beautiful outdoor spaces are perfect for eating, drinking, hanging out and enjoying the company of others. The menus have been designed by well-known restaurants from the area, making them both ideal locations to get together with friends after work or to enjoy some quiet time to yourself after a long work week.
