Phunjo Becomes the Fastest Woman to Climb Mount Everest

Kathmandu, Nepal – In a historic feat, Nepali climber Phunjo Jhangmu Lama has become the fastest woman to summit Mount Everest, reaching the top of the world’s highest peak in an incredible 14 hours and 31 minutes. This surpasses the previous record held by Hong Kong’s Tsang Yin Hung (Ada) who summited Everest in 25 hours and 50 minutes in 2021.

Phunjo Lama reclaims title becoming fastest woman to scale Mount Everest in 14.5 hrs

Lama started her ascent on Wednesday, May 22nd, 2024 at 3:52 PM and reached the 8,848.86 m summit the following day at 6:23 AM. According to her climbing management company, TAG Nepal, Lama is now aiming to set another record by becoming the fastest climber to return to base camp.

This achievement is not new territory for Lama. In 2018, she set a previous record for the fastest female ascent with a time of 39 hours and 6 minutes.
