Exploring Cape Town

The city of Cape Town is a popular tourist attraction offering fun activities for the whole family. From Cape Winelands to Boulders Beach, there’s something for everyone. Here’s a list of the popular places in Cape Town:

1) Imhoff Farm: The Imhoff Farm stands on a land known as Imhoff’s Gift. This land was gifted to Christina Diemer on the condition that vegetables and other produce from the farm should be supplied to the Dutch East India Company at a fixed rate. 250 years hence, the farm houses restaurants, and unusual shops that sell produce at a reasonable rate. There is also a nature park where you can walk alongside blue cranes, ostriches, llamas, and monkeys. The place is also home to the Higgeldy Piggeldy Farm. This farm houses goats, pigs, sheep, ducks, chickens, rabbits and guinea pigs. Children can play with the animals and even feed them.

2) Noordhoek Farm: This farm is situated below the slopes of the Chapman’s Peak Drive. The place is also home to an award-winning wine estate. The white varietal grape grown here is used to produce the Cape Point Vineyards Sauvignon. You can also shop for unique arts and crafts at the many shops in Noordhoek.

3) Cape Point Ostrich Farm: The Cape Point Ostrich Farm is a 65 hectare productive breeding farm for ostriches. Visitors can take a guided tour of the farm or shop for exquisite products made from ostrich leather.

4) Boulders Beach: Boulders Beach is a well protected cove and ideal for kids to enjoy a day by the beach. The huge granite boulders in the beach provide shelter from currents and waves. Children can also look at the hundreds of penguins that have made this beach their home. You can even swim along with these birds.

5) Whale Tour in Hermanus: You can experience the majestic Southern Right Whales up close and personal as hundreds of them come to Hermanus to calve, mate, and frolic. Besides the Southern Right, you can also find Humpbacks and Brydes in small numbers.

6) Fernkloof Nature Reserve: The Fernkloof Nature Reserve is home to more than 1600 species of flora and different varieties of bird life. In fact, the herbarium at this reserve houses more plant species than those found in the entire United Kingdom. You can also view some of the best and biggest collection of carnivorous plants including the Roridula. Situated in the Klienriver Mountains, this Reserve covers more than 2000 hectares of natural habitat.

There are plenty of activities and attractions to do and see in Cape Town. Make sure you book accommodation in advance, because there are millions of tourists who visit the city every year, especially during the peak season.
