My Eye-Opening Ayahuasca Experience in Iquitos, Peru

During a week-long ayahuasca trip in Iquitos, Peru, I strapped on my seatbelt night 3 and asked the shaman for a 2.5x dose. I saw visions I can never get out of my mind, both positive and negative. The positive ones were the most influential and stick with me to this day. Here’s my account of what I experienced that night.

My Experience

I ventured into the “dungeon” of my mind, becoming ensnared in a surreal realm that felt endless and eternal. There, I lost sight of who I was and the purpose behind my journey, overwhelmed with confusion and uncertainty.

Down in that dark abyss, I encountered a visceral and undeniably real vision of my death. I lay on a hospital stretcher, unable to discern my age, surrounded by the tears and grief of loved ones. Though my mind recoiled, something deep within me knew that this image was meant to be confronted and understood. I didn’t turn away, and instead observed it head on.

The acceptance of my mortality was far from effortless, yet it was a profound realization that helped pave the way for transcendence.

In the beginning, my mind resisted the overwhelming sensations, fearful of losing control as I had the night before. But when I finally surrendered, embraced the chaos, and let go entirely, remarkable visions began to unfold.

After the tempestuous storm came the soothing calm, painting my mind with the most vivid colors and enchanting forest scenes, interwoven with flashbacks to my past and glimpses of my future. The beauty was unparalleled, a tapestry of memories, love, and the world’s magnificence.

I found myself connected to the higher realms of my consciousness, more present and aware than ever before. My thoughts materialized before me, allowing me to observe and explore them with a profound detachment and awe. Time seemed to stretch, and I basked in this wondrous headspace.

A deep longing grew within me to etch this headspace into my memory. My mind whispered reassurances, promising that this wisdom was always within my reach.

The journey reached its zenith with an astonishing vision of every person who has ever shaped me — friends, teachers, writers. Their wisdom and impact converged, guiding me to the place where I found myself, filled with inspiration and a powerful drive to harness their lessons and make them wholly mine.

The odyssey through my mind’s dungeon was more than a mere exploration; it was a metamorphosis that revealed the fragility of life, the importance of acceptance, and the boundless beauty of existence. It taught me the profound interconnectedness of all things and inspired me to take the essence of those lessons and infuse them into my being. The dungeon was not a place of confinement but a gateway to understanding, and I emerged from it transformed, with a renewed sense of purpose and connection to the world.
