Should you wear red the next time you're at the airport?

Alright, here we go, my first dabble into commenting on travel news that is doing the rounds. And what a place to start, asking the very important question, should you wear red the next time you're at the airport?

Red is synonymous with Wales, so win there I guess. Here's me, wearing a red Wales shirt, looking depressed, at the Vatican. You welcome.

Anyways, an article on Airplane Tips recently caught my eye, explaining why you should wear red the next time you're at the airport, as it can help in a number of ways. The article has been split up into a number of subheadings, and I'm going to go through these one by one, and offer my views.

If you've come just for the information on how Wearing Red before your next flight can help you, just focus on the bold text. If you want my thoughts on each point, keep reading the additional text!

Red Grabs Attention:

I'll be honest with you, I already attract Attention at airports, and it's not usually fun. I have a beard, I tan quite well for a person from the UK, and I normally carry a backpack with me. The amount of times I get stopped for 'random' searches is pretty high, so I'm not sure if I want to attract any additional attention.

One of my favourite random searches happened last year, can't remember exactly where, but we were queueing to get access to the gate area, and the lovely lady in the area picked a few of us to join a separate line, so they could search our bags. I reached the line, and the guy in front of me, and the guy behind me, also had a big beard. She clearly had a type.

Red Increases Perceived Attractiveness:

I have no shame in saying I'm pretty average looking. I'm bald and I have a beer belly, but I get by. I actually bought a red sports jacket recently (representing Wales obvs), and I don't think it helped with any perceived attractiveness. In fact, one of my friends said I looked like Father Christmas. Win?

For all my fans, this is me looking depressed in front of Due Torri in Bologna. Again, you welcome.

Red Improves Alertness and Reaction Times:

I found this a weird section of the Airplane Tips article, and I have no idea if does help with staying alert.

In 2022, I came the closest I've come to missing a flight whilst being in the airport. It was in Copenhagen, I ordered a curry dish which cost a fortune (it was Copenhagen), it took an age to come, I'm a slow eater, and it almost ended in disaster. I finished, turned the corner to my gate, and there was an additional passport queue.

I had ten minutes or so until my departure, and the queue wasn't moving. Then I heard it, my name was called on the airport tannoy! I had to get the attention of a member of staff, went to the front of the queue, and had to sprint to my gate on the other side. It was like a bad Christmas movie.

I don't think I was wearing red, but it appears maybe I should have been?

Red Makes You Appear More Powerful and Dominant:

I can already see people who know me reading this and laughing, because you would not use the adjectives 'powerful' and 'dominant' to describe me, at all. I'm chill AF, not overly great with confrontation, so I'll be honest, I don't know if red can help me.

I did try being an Alpha for a few days in Morocco in 2022, got sick, and took that as a message from the universe that my body can't handle it.

Airline Staff Treat Passengers in Red Better:

I've been flying and travelling many years, and only once did I feel I had special treatment. That was on a flight to New York from London, and a friend and I were upgraded to premium economy, and I lost my shit.

The extra legroom, and drinks and snacks whenever you wanted seriously might have been one of the highlights of my trip. I'm incredibly easily pleased.

I'll admit, I usually take short economy flights, so the chances of an upgrade, or being treated notably better are slim, but it's something to keep in mind. I have all the respect for airline staff regardless of freebies, as I'm counting on you to get me to my destination safely. Therefore, I shall always be pleasant, as that's what I do. Remember kids, it's nice to be nice.

What red items should you wear at the airport?

I'm not stylish. I've been dressing the same way for most of my adult life, so here are some AI generated tips on how to incorporate red into your wardrobe. Again, you're welcome.

If you're considering incorporating red into your airport wardrobe, there are various items you can choose from to make a stylish yet impactful statement. For instance, a classic red blazer can effortlessly elevate your look, exuding both professionalism and flair. A red scarf or hat can add a pop of colour to a more subdued outfit, drawing attention to your presence without overwhelming your overall aesthetic. Red accessories, such as a bold handbag or a pair of statement shoes, can also contribute to the overall impact of your ensemble.

Celebrities often utilize the power of red to make a statement when traveling. Take, for example, the iconic red trench coat worn by Audrey Hepburn in "Breakfast at Tiffany's" or the stylish red suit choices of Hollywood stars like Scarlett Johansson and Ryan Reynolds. These celebrities understand the influence of red in capturing attention and projecting a strong, confident image.

In conclusion, wearing red at the airport can provide a multitude of benefits, from increased visibility to an air of dominance and confidence. The colour red serves as a visual beacon, allowing you to stand out in a crowd of neutral tones. So, the next time you find yourself navigating the terminals, consider incorporating red into your travel wardrobe for a stylish and impactful journey that won't go unnoticed.

Conclusion:

Honestly, I don't know. I might even end up hating people I see wearing red at the airport. But, in the interests of research, I will wear red to the airport soon, and see if it makes any difference. Stay tuned!
