After heading to Roque Nublo, we continued our journey to Pico de las Nieves, to watch the sun set over the island. We headed from the third highest peak on Gran Canaria, to the second highest, but this time we had a car to take us, even if the roads are tricky to navigate. There's a small carpark at the end of the road, but all of the regular spaces were taken, so we improvised a little, parking at a strange angle adjacent to a wall. It was already relatively busy when we arrived, but there are plenty of vantage points, and we, in keeping with the spirit of the day, aimed a bit higher, climbing over a fence and sitting on a rock, preparing for the sun to disappear behind the mountains in the distance.

It wasn't too far from Roque Nublo, so if you're in the area, I certainly recommend doing what we did, and combining both of them in the same day. We timed it really well, probably more out of luck, and it worked out perfectly for us. This was the end of the September, and it got pretty cold, so in my most grown up voice, I'd recommend bringing a jacket. Once again, we found ourselves above the clouds, with the mountains and valley's opening up in front of us. It was the perfect end to the day, and just like in Roque Nublo, we were all pretty quiet, just admiring the incredible view in front of us. With the sun finally set, we turned around, where the moon decided to put on a show of its own, shining a lot brighter than my humble phone can accurately display. As mentioned in the Roque Nublo post, the diversity of Gran Canaria is something else. You have the touristy areas in the south, the capital Las Palmas in the north, and right bang in the middle, these wonderful locations. What an island.
