20 Reasons To Visit Spain - In Photos

20 Photos To Inspire You To Visit Spain

I walked the Camino de Santiago in September-October of 2016. That was my introduction to Spain and what an intro it was. I took my time on the Camino and ended up taking almost 6 weeks to do it. I walked most days however when there was something to see I took the time and did everything that came my way.

From the churches and cathedrals, to the food and local hospitality to the beaches and vacation spots, Spain is truly amazing and my three months in Spain went by so very quickly.

Incredible Beaches

Did you know?

Spain has more than 5000 kilometers of coastline? 5000 kilometers - thats a LOT!

While the most populous beaches are on the islands and southern coast, you will notice I've not mentioned them in these beach photos. I'm sure you can find popular Spanish beaches on your own so these beaches are some you might not have visited.

City Parks & Plazas

Did you know?

One of the supposed holy grails resides in Spain. I say supposed because it has supporters and some who deny what it actually is.

The Basilica San Isidoro in Leon is home to The Chalice of Doña Urraca. This cup is a jewel-encrusted onyx chalice which is alleged to be the Holy Chalice, the cup from which Jesus drank and served Holy Communion. It looks slightly like a thunder egg set in gold that someone has sat on!

The Churches & Cathedrals

All over Spain you will see churches and cathedrals of all shapes and sizes. Their influences are wide and varied but they are almost always spectacular. I still think about all the churches we saw and got to visit in Spain and how amazing they were.

Did you know?

Most years over 200,000 pilgrims walk a Camino across Spain to Santiago De Compostela. There are multiple caminos trails in Spain, all leading to Santiago, however the Frances is the most popular.

I walked it in 2016 which was a holy year - An Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy. Not only did I get to enter the holy door in Santiago cathedral I also got to do it in Quebec Basillica too!

Spanish History and Culture

This Cava vinyard is really worth seeing. I did a full review about Codorniu Vinyard for you to read about it and we did this day tour from Barcelona which encompassed the vineyard and Montserrat.
I hadn't realised just how far in advance the Alhambra books out so we had to take a tour to get in. It turned out to be a fantastic Idea. You know I always try to take a tour, but this was the end of a few months in Europe and my funds were running low so we had decided to try and do it on our own. It was not possible due to the tickets being sold out for days,  and what a boon that turned out to be! We did this Skip The Line Alhambra and electric bike tour and it was fantastic. Our guide for the Alhambra was great and then we spent a few hours at the site ourselves when the tour was over. That evening we joined the electric bike tour of Albaicin, the city's old Muslim quarter, and Sacromonte, the epicenter of Granada's flamenco scene. It was really worth it.

Did you know?

Spain has the world's second highest life expectancy! According to the WHO, the overall life expectancy of the people of Spain is 83. Only Japan is higher. Once you've visited Spain you can really see why. The Spanish are very social people and while they work hard, they don't work any more than they have to. They do have a very good work life balance.

The Food!

Somehow I think I have 21 photos here but Spain is so great that it was hard to keep it to 20!
