”A 23-year-old Mumbai guy suffered a Skull Fracture after getting hit with a stick while driving a two-wheeler in the city’s Vakola neighbourhood. His family members claim that he was hurt when a policeman smacked him on the head with his baton during a ‘nakabandi’,” stated a report.
The victim, Imran Sheikh, was visiting dargahs (religious shrines) in the city with a companion when the event occurred in the early hours of September 29, coinciding with Eid-e-Milad celebrations. This information was released by the police on Wednesday.
According to the article, “the police launched a case on Wednesday against an unidentified man for the attack that resulted in the victim’s head injury after acting on a complaint filed by the victim’s friend, Ejaz Khan”.
Sheikh was riding the motorcycle with Khan as the pillion rider, according to the lawsuit. They were making their way from Mahim Dargah to Oshiwara. They saw a group of two-wheeler riders performing a U-turn and telling others not to go due to a ‘nakabandi’ or police checkpoint ahead on the Western Express Highway (WEH) in Vakola.
Two people dressed in plain clothes allegedly struck them with bamboo sticks as they began to turn back. Imran was hit in the head by one of the assailants who hit their motorcycle. The attackers then fled the area, but Imran was uncomfortable and spat on the spot.
According to the report, “Sheikh’s companion gave him quick first aid and drove him to his home. He was then brought to the civic-run Bhabha Hospital in Kurla before being referred to KEM Hospital. A CT scan at KEM confirmed that Imran had a skull fracture, as mentioned in the complaint”.
Razzak Sheikh, the victim’s father, expressed concerns about the ‘nakabandi,’ asking who, other than police officers, would dare to wield a bamboo stick in such a setting. He made an appeal for justice, expressing his family’s astonishment and distress. He requested that the Vakola police analyse their records and review CCTV footage in order to identify the officers stationed at the WEH checkpoint.
Imran’s companion immediately administered first aid and drove him to his home. He was brought to the civic-run Bhabha Hospital in Kurla before being referred to KEM Hospital. According to reports, a CT scan at KEM Hospital verified Imran’s skull fracture.

He made an urgent request for justice, expressing his family’s astonishment and grief. He demanded that the Vakola police extensively analyse their records and review CCTV footage in order to identify the policemen present at the WEH checkpoint.
A police official said thata FIR was filed against an unidentified person under Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 326 (voluntarily causing grievous harm by hazardous weapons or means) and 34 (common intention). The inquiry into the incident is still ongoing”.
