Navi Mumbai Police Conduct Raids, Apprehend 75 Nigerian Nationals in Drug and Immigration Crackdown Worth ₹2 Crore

On Friday night, the Navi Mumbai police’s anti-narcotics unit conducted six raids and captured 75 Nigerian citizens who were marketing drugs and residing illegally. The Police seized illegal goods worth two crore rupees.

Raids were carried out on two properties in Juhu gaon, Vashi; one of the structures in Bonkode, Koparkhairane; and one building each in sectors 27 and 35 of Kharghar and even Taloja.

Police Inspector Niraj Chaudhary from the anti-narcotics department stated, “The well-synchronised operation took place at six separate sites and was directed by Navi Mumbai police commissioner Milind Bharambe.

Police Inspector Niraj Chaudhary from the anti-narcotics department stated, “The well-synchronised operation took place at six separate sites and was directed by Navi Mumbai police commissioner Milind Bharambe.

Over 600 of these police officers participated in the raids, while more were kept in reserve for potential emergencies.

“We are checking the documentation of the Nigerian citizens to see who was here unlawfully. After every check, a FIR would be filed. The local police and the anti-narcotics division carried out the raid, according to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch) Amit Kale.

Due to a fight involving the police as well as Nigerians in July, when Navi Mumbai police arrested four Nigerians with 523 grammes of methaqualone, a narcotic worth $52.30 lakh, police chose to be prepared this time throughout the raid with a large team, a fire brigade, and an ambulance.

A police officer claimed, “We had a fire brigade crew along with an ambulance for us to deal with anything the Nigerians’ reaction was going to be to the operation.

None of them could communicate the information with other people at the same or even different nodes because the procedure was carried out simultaneously.

More than 300 grams of MD, 700 grams of cocaine, and 300 kilograms of tramadol hydrochloride have all been found so far. Police in Kharghar’s Sector 35 seized 19,600 straps of the antidepressant Tramadol Hydrochloride, which has been made illegal since 2018. According to Chaudhary, “Tramadol hydrochloride itself is expected to be around 2 crore. In Kharghar’s sector 27, over 300 grams of cocaine worth 45 lakh rupees and 170 grams of MD worth 17 lakh rupees were found. In the meantime, 120 grams of cocaine worth 18 lakh rupees were found in Juhu Gaon, and 450 grams worth 67.50 lakh rupees were found in Koparkhairane.

The police detained up to 75 foreigners, and they are currently under investigation by police officers about their role in drug sales and the validity of their citizenship certificates. The search and capture operation involved around 600 officers from the police and other employees. The police reported that they had confiscated drugs worth Rs 2 crore, mainly cocaine and tramadol hydrochloride.
