New Local Train Sidings at Juinagar Station Enhance Stabling Capacity for Harbour Line Trains

At Juinagar station, four new local Train sidings with a six EMU rake capacity were successfully put into service on August 27 as part of the Harbour Line Mega Block. The work was done by the Central Railway (CR) and Mumbai Railway Vikas Corporation Limited (MRVC). Two of the four new stabling lines can accommodate two trains each, for a total of six trains that can be stabled, according to a CR spokesperson.

Six 12-car trains may now park on the harbour line in Navi Mumbai thanks to the construction of four new rail tracks. By connecting it to existing wires, the continuing, one-year effort was eventually completed last night in a four-hour block.

The problem of train parking and stabling had gotten much worse with the expansion of services on the harbour line and the opening of the trans-harbour and Kharkopar corridors.

The project began in September 2022 and was finished on August 20, 2023.

“Four new local train stabling sidings with a stabling capacity of six EMU rakes were successfully commissioned at Juinagar station on August 27 during the harbour line mega block. Mumbai Railway Vikas Corporation Limited (MRVC) and the Central Railway (CR) had undertaken the work. Out of four new stabling lines, two lines have a capacity of stabling two trains each, so a total of six trains can be stabled,” a CR spokesperson said.

“These four additional suburban sidings will be built, which will help relieve platform congestion at Panvel and Vashi from the daily stabling of local train rakes. Additionally, it will clear the lines for the Sanpada auto barn. Local train rakes being stashed on these new stabling lines at Juinagar will help improve maintenance procedures for inspecting local trains,” he further added.

“With the commissioning of these stabling sidings, six twelve-car trains can be stabled and examined before being put into operation. The present daily night platform stabling of trains in the Panvel-Vashi section can be shifted to these new sidings now. The commissioning of work included the upgrade of the existing signalling system and enhancement of operational flexibility in yard operation. Also, a new running room with provision for bed capacity for the rest of suburban motormen and guards has also been made operational today,” he said.

The development is vital for Navi Mumbai.

Four additional rail lines have been finished, allowing for the harbour line’s six 12-car trains to be parked there. Last night, over a four-hour period, the enormous one-year effort came to an end when the additional lines were smoothly integrated into the old network.

In a joint effort, the Central Railway (CR) and the Mumbai Railway Vikas Corporation Limited (MRVC) successfully inaugurated four additional local train stabling sidings at Juinagar station on August 27. According to reports, two of the newly built stabling lines can hold two trains each, giving them a combined capacity of six trains, according to a CR official.

The critical need for sufficient parking and stabling facilities had been made even more urgent by the development of services on the harbour line and the opening of new corridors like trans-harbour and Kharkopar.

Since these stabling sidings were successfully placed into service, it is now possible to store and test six trains with twelve cars before putting them into service. As a result, the Panvel-Vashi section’s current practice of nightly platform stabling can be transferred to these new sidings.

The modernization of the signalling system and enhancements to operational flexibility during yard operations were also included in the project’s scope. In addition, a newly built running room with enough beds has been operationalized to offer rest areas for guards and

motormen in the suburbs.
