Mumbai Airport’s T2 Metro Station to Break National Record with India’s Tallest Escalators

Mumbai Airport’s international terminal (T2) Station which is part of the underground metro network, will soon proudly house India’s tallest escalator, taking passengers to new heights with ease and convenience.

This underground metro network is about to reach new heights with this exciting addition.

Currently, the highest escalator in India can be found at Delhi Metro’s Janakpuri-West station.

However, this record is soon to be surpassed as Mumbai Airport’s metro station reaches new heights, quite literally!

The installation of India’s tallest Escalators is underway at Metro 3’s international airport terminal (T2) station.

Breaking the National Record

These impressive escalators at Mumbai Airport’s underground T2 metro station will span a length of 19.15 meters. This length will surpass the current national record held by the escalators at Delhi Metro’s Janakpuri-West station, which measure 15.6 meters. Mumbai will regain its status as the city with the tallest escalators in the country, a title it previously held thanks to T2’s 11.6-meter-high pair.

Official Tweet: India’s Tallest Escalators at CSMIA T2 Station

The official tweet from #Metro3 announces the installation of India’s tallest escalators at CSMIA T2 Station. With each escalator measuring 19.15 meters in height, the progress is well underway, with four escalators already hoisted and further installation work in progress.

Features of Mumbai’s Tallest Escalator

India’s tallest escalator at Mumbai Airport’s T2 metro station will not only surpass the national record but also exceed the height of an eight-storey building.

According to a report by Mumbai Live, a total of eight escalators, each measuring 19.15 meters, will be installed at Mumbai Metro’s international airport terminal (T2) station.

It’s worth noting that the world’s highest escalators, measuring 69 meters each, can be found in three underground stations of the Saint Petersburg Metro in Russia.

Crane’s Role in the Installation

To bring this engineering marvel to life, the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) spokesperson revealed that a massive 250-ton crane will be used to lower the eight escalators within the confined spaces of the underground Colaba-Bandra-Seepz corridor at CSMIA T-2 station.

In total, the station will house 14 escalators, with eight of them being the tallest in India. The decision to install the tallest escalators in India is primarily due to the CSMIA T2 station being one of the deepest stations on the Metro 3 line.

Additionally, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has announced the installation of Mumbai’s first-ever travellator.

This travellator will provide a convenient link between the monorail station at the upcoming Metro 3 underground station and the area between Sant Gadge Maharaj Chowk and Mahalaxmi railway station.

Hong Kong’s Stature as the World’s Tallest

While we now know about India’s soon-to-be tallest escalator, have you ever wondered which country holds the prestigious position of having the world’s tallest escalator?

The world’s tallest single escalator can be found in Russia’s St. Petersburg, installed within the city’s deep underground stations. However, when it comes to holding the title for the world’s tallest escalator system, Hong Kong takes the crown.

Hong Kong stands at an impressive 135 meters tall, running for a length of 800 meters.
