The island of dolls is perhaps the most visited haunted site in Mexico. When Julian Barrera bought the island in the year the 1950s, he was haunted by the spirit of a small girl. With time, he learned that the girl was drowned and been killed in the canal right next to the island. He began hanging dolls of various types and sizes across the island in an attempt to keep her spirit at bay.

However, he reportedly told his family that the spirit of the girl wanted him to accompany her in the afterlife. His body was later found in the same spot as the girl, a few days later. Visitors to the island have experienced sounds of laughter and play. Some of them have even reported the eyes of the dolls following them. If this tale is spine-chilling, you should certainly visit the island once in a lifetime for the sheer experience.


2. Bhangarh Fort, Rajasthan, India



Taunted to be one of the oldest haunted places in Rajasthan, Bhangarh fort certainly tops the list. The spooky and strange activities that take place inside the walls of the fort are certainly not for the faint-hearted. It is said that anyone who enters the walls of the fort after sunset does not make it out alive. People from the locality have reported hearing screams and strange sightings around the fort.

Legend has it that the fort was cursed by a saint when his love was rejected by the princess of Bhangarh. His curse not only destroyed the fort but future plans of restoring the fort never saw the light of the day

3. Monte Cristo Homestead, Australia



The haunted house of Monte Cristo has some of the most tragic stories related to it. Right from the mysterious death of the owners, the haunted house has seen many tragic events.

The house is said to be haunted since its conception in 1885. It is believed that the ghosts of the original owners of the house, still haunt the place. The property was purchased by the Ryan family in the year 1963. The couple has witnessed strange events happening around the house, like the whole place lighting up without electricity. In fact, their son has also managed to capture some eerie figures with his camera lenses. Currently, the property is converted into a small motel that offers ghost tours to its visitors.

4. High Gate Cemetary, England



Although cemeteries already have a sense of mystery in them, the high gate cemetery in England is surely a class apart. The reason why this cemetery makes it to the list is the fact that it is home to a Vampire. Not just a regular vampire, a 7-foot-tall one with red hypnotic eyes and a black coat. Residents of the nearby have reported spotting some strange shadows and graves being dug with headless bodies being placed in their cars. This made the cemetery a hotbed for vampire hunters, who are on the lookout for the beast. The place also has quite a reputation for occult and other Paranormal Activities.

5. Myrtles Plantation, USA


The Myrtles Plantation is known to be America’s most haunted home with over 10 murders occurring on the property. It is said that the property is haunted by a green turban-wearing maid who was killed by the other workers. The maid supposedly tried to poison the homeowners but failed in the attempt. The other loyal workers, finding this, took revenge by killing the maid and disposing of her body in the river.

There are numerous sightings of shrouded figures walking around the property. A mirror in the living area is also said to trap the spirits of a mother and her children. If you want to experience some blood-curdling paranormal activities, visiting the Myrtles Plantation is definitely worth a visit.

6. Akershus Castle, Norway



A stunning fortress built in the 1290s is said to be home to a spirit of a woman and her dog. It was also an important site for the execution of the Jews by the Nazis. Apart from the various paranormal activities that are reported in the area, the castle is a stunning piece of architecture. Unfortunately, people who have walked along the walls of the castle, often end up dead. It is said that whoever spots the ghost of the lady and her dog walking there, is sure to die in the near future.

7. Chateau De Brissac, France


The Chateau De Brissac in France is known to be haunted by the ghost of the green lady. She was the wife of the owner of the castle who was killed by him due to her infidelity.

The owner later moved out of the castle due to being haunted by the spirits of his wife and her lover. However, with time the spirit of the lover moved on. Part of the Chateau is now converted into a hotel. The descendants of the owner are accustomed to the noises and the moans of the lady but it certainly surprises the visitors. The spirit is mostly seen on the tower of the castle in a green dress, hence the name “Green Lady”. People who have seen her ghost have not failed to notice the holes on her face in the place of her nose and eyes.
