Maldives with family

Have you thought of visiting the Maldives with family and don’t know if it’s a good idea? Believe it is! The exotic Maldives is something for those who want to experience a real adventure. It is worth visiting them, because it is not known if they will soon disappear from the world maps.

About 500 km southwest of India, in the Indian Ocean, lies an unusual archipelago and the country of the same name – the Maldives. In total, it covers almost 1200 islets, of which only about 1/6 is inhabited. These islets cluster around 26 coral atolls that have grown on an underground volcanic chain. The highest point of the entire archipelago is only 2 m above sea level. But such an amazing location also has its dark side – the islands are in danger of being completely flooded. Beautiful beaches and a very warm climate attract many tourists here. The easiest way to get to the Maldives is by plane. The international airport is located on the Island of Hulhule, which is part of Male – the capital of the country, with which it is connected by frequent ferries.

Best time to go on vacation?

The Maldives is warm all year round. The average daily air temperature is around 27 ˚C. The water temperature does not fluctuate much, it constantly oscillates between 26-29 ˚C. There are two seasons characteristic of an equatorial climate. The dry season is roughly from December to April and then it’s very sunny, so it’s a great time to go on a winter holiday with the kids. The rainy season starts in May and ends in November. It is still warm, but there are frequent rains, but you can also come across sunny days. During this period, many surfers come to the Maldives for the big waves.

Tourism is concentrated in resorts on separate islands with beautiful coconut palms and banana trees. The beaches with pure white sand are among the most beautiful in the world. The sea here is crystal clear, with beautiful lagoons and coral reefs, so there are plenty of great diving sites. About 2,000 species of fish live in the depths of the sea around the Maldives, including the largest whale shark (harmless to humans) and many species of turtles. There are also sunken wrecks and underwater caves.

The variety of diving sites allows great fun for both experienced and beginners. You can also hire an instructor. You can move between the islands on boats that are easily accessible for tourists. Great fun is sailing on a local type of boat called Dhoni, where you can admire the beautiful views. Wing links have also been developed, thanks to which you can see the amazing islands from the air. An interesting fact is that in the Maldives, which is a remnant of the British protectorate, there is left-hand traffic.

City life

The largest city and capital of the Maldives – Male – is actually the only (besides Addu) urban center on the islands. Thanks to its small area, it is one of the most densely populated in the world. It is surrounded by a large concrete breakwater that protects against flooding. The main square in the city is the Republic Square with the Islamic Center with the largest historic mosque on the island. Another mosque worth seeing is the Coral Friday Mosque, Sultan’s Park and the National Museum. The tsunami memorial, on the other hand, is a reminder of the huge tragedy that happened in the Maldives in 2004, when a large part of the city was under water as a result of the tsunami wave.

Almost a hundred island resorts provide tourists with excellent conditions for relaxation. The role of hotel rooms is often fulfilled by villas stylized as traditional buildings. Guests have access to numerous restaurants, bars, swimming pools and spa centers. In many cases, the infrastructure is adapted to the needs of kids – special menus in restaurants, family rooms, kid’s clubs, animation, discos, diving schools for children. You can also count on many attractions here – cruises, island hopping, dolphin watching, beach sports. Themed evenings with local cuisine are organized. You can also admire the traditional Bodu Beru dance and song show performed by about 20 people in national costumes.
