Pattaya City Prepares for Songkran Festival

Pattaya —

A meeting was held at Pattaya City Hall yesterday, April 9th, 2024, to discuss traffic and security arrangements for the upcoming Songkran Festival.

The meeting was chaired by Mr. Sakchai Charoenyukongrod, Assistant Secretary to the Mayor of Pattaya City. Other participants included representatives from the Pattaya Police, Banglamung Police, Tourist Police, Chonburi Cultural Office, Pattaya City Volunteers, Sawang Boriboon Foundation, and the event contractor.

According to the officials, the city will close Traffic to all vehicles from Central Pattaya Intersection to Walking Street from 2:30 PM to 11:00 PM on Songkran Day, April 19th. A total of 543 police officers and volunteers will be deployed at various points to ensure traffic flow and public safety.

A fire truck and a patrol boat will be stationed near Central Pattaya to provide emergency assistance. The city also announced prohibited things to do during the event, including selling goods on the street or sidewalk without permission, carrying weapons and alcoholic beverages to event areas, and only opened plastic water bottles are allowed in the event areas.

With dozens of bars and convenience stores that sell alcohol in the event area, it remains unclear how banning alcohol will be enforced.

There will also be other traffic restrictions and rules that we will highlight closer to the event. Through traffic should avoid Pattaya on the main event day as it traditionally becomes impassable and full of trucks of people celebrating the holiday.
