Day 1: Arrival in Leh (11480ft)

  • Greetings from Leh! The Grand Dragon Ladakh, renowned for its luxury and elegance, is a great place to unwind and acclimate to the altitude.
  • Visit Leh’s landmarks, including as Leh Palace, then dine at Lamayuru Restaurant to sample local cuisine.

Gombo Ranjan: Zanskar’s Spiritual Epicentre

The mere sight of the gigantic mountain fills you with positive energy and an outburst of spirituality. The blue sky and the Zanskar stream flowing in the valley gives a heavenly feel. There are some camp sites one can choose to stay. But beware that it is at more than 14500ft and AMS strikes badly here if you are not completely acclimatized.

Day 6: Gombo Ranjan – Zangla(11680ft) – Lingshed(12890ft) a ride of 60 km

  • Return to Zangla after leaving Gombo Ranjan with a full tank.
  • Lunch in the middle of nature while touring the old Zangla Castle.
  • Fill up your tank completely before setting out for Lingshed.
  • Discover the fascinating surroundings to get to Lingshed Monastery Guesthouse.
  • Take in the special atmosphere of this peaceful hideaway.

Day 7: Lingshed – Lamayuru(11515ft) a ride of 90 km

  • Ride to Lamayuru from Lingshed with a full tank.
  • On your way to Lamayuru, refuel in Khaltse.
  • Get to Hotel Moonland, a welcoming hotel with a great reputation.
  • Enjoy your final evening by exploring the ancient Lamayuru Monastery.

Day 8: Lamayuru – Leh ride distance 125 km

  • Leave Lamayuru behind and refuel at Khaltse.
  • Along the way, stop for lunch at Indus Kitchen.
  • After finishing your amazing Zanskar circuit, return to Leh. Lehchen, a rooftop retro bar in Leh, is a great place to join a drink party.
  • Take advantage of your final night at The Grand Dragon Ladakh.

Fuel

Due to its isolation and rocky terrain, Fuel availability in Zanskar can be quite restricted. Planning your fuel stops wisely is essential to ensuring a smooth ride. The following locations in Zanskar have fuel available:

  1. The administrative hub of Zanskar, Padum, typically features a gas station. One of the primary refueling locations in the area.
  2. One of the important towns along the route is Kargil, where you may refuel before continuing on to Zanskar. It is recommended to leave Kargil with a full tank before beginning your journey to Zanskar.
  3. Rangdum: It is advised to refuel in Kargil before traveling to Rangdum as there may be restricted fuel supplies there.
  4. Other communities: There may be temporary fuel stations in some of the other communities along the route, but they might not always be dependable. It is preferable to rely on the main ideas stated above.

You must carefully arrange your re-fuel stops because fuel availability in isolated areas like Zanskar is erratic. Always make sure you have enough fuel to get to the next known refueling location, and if at all possible, carry extra fuel. Before you go on your trip, make sure you get the most recent information on fuel availability from the area or your lodging.
