Fatehpur Sikri -red sandstone marvel

Fatehpur Sikiri is Fort and Mosque situated in Agra, Uttar Pradesh.
Build by Akbar and Called as city of victory because there was successful campaign in Gujarat. It build on rocky ridge. Fort is surrounded by wall boundary at three side and at the fourth side it is surrounded by lake. It was leisure and luxury place for Royal family. Striking feature of the building is – red sandstone and there is a Gujarati influence on architecture of the building.

There are many gates in Fatehpur Sikiri. These are Delhi gate , Lal gate and Birbal gate, Chandanpal gate, Gwalior gate, Tehra gate, Chor gate and the Ajmeri gate.

It has summer and winter palace which was built for queen Jodha. I have taken some of pictures of palaces and beautiful Architectures.

Buland Darwaza

It is 55 m high Gate. It is symbol of victory arch to mark the successful Gujarat campaign. Center portico comprises three arched entrance , largest in middle, called horseshoe gate, after the custom of nailing horseshoes for good luck.

Jama Masjid

First building constructed in complex. with the massive entrance Buland Darwaza added five years later. distinguish feature row of Chhatri in sanctuary. Three Mirhabs in each of the seven bays. Central Mirhabs covered with dome decorated with white marble.

Tomb of Salim Chisti

A white marble tomb of the Sufi saint, Salim Chisti. Who lived from 1478 to 1572. Building is built around the central square chamber, within which grave of the saint situated.

Anup Talao

Built by Raja anup singh sikarwar. Its a ornamental pool and has central platform and four bridges leading up to it.

Mariam Uz Zamani palace

Building of akbar rajput wives, Gujrati influence can be seen in architecture the palace.
naubat khana drum house, musician used drum to announce the arrival of the emperor.

Pach Mahal

Five story palatial building. built for ladies of the court.

Birbal House

House of Akbar favorite minister, who was Hindu.

Hiran Minar

Its a Elephant tower- traditionally it was thought to be tower erected as a memorial to the emperor Akbar’s favorite elephant.

Other Important places

Diwan – i – aam – Hall of public audience

Diwan – i – khas: hall of private audience

Pachisi court: square structure built like board game, precursor to modern game ludo. people served as the pieces of the game.

Ibadat khana: built by akbar for din i ilahi( syncretism belief)
