Parvati Sarovar: An account of a trekker’s experience

Parvati Sarovar is a holy lake located at an elevation of 4,497mts near the peak of Adi Kailash. A shrine of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati lies at the shore of the lake in Uttarakhand. Devotees trekking towards Adi Kailash, pray at the shrine. The lake is considered to be auspicious and is said to fulfill the wishes of those who bathe in it.

It’s a beautiful lake that is filled with rejuvenation for both the body and mind. There is a refreshing mist that surrounds the lake and the views are stunning. The water is absolutely pure and clean and can be used for drinking. If you’re lucky, you might even see a rare Himalayan pink deer!

Adi Kailash

Adi Kailash, which means “first Kailash”, is often referred to as “Chotta Kailash” or “Little Kailash” because it resembles Mount Kailash in a lot of ways. Parvati Sarovar, though much smaller than the original Mansarovar Lake, is also referred to as ‘Mansarovar’.

There are two lakes in the Kailash region, and they are both named Kailash. The bigger Kailash Lake is about twenty times the size of the Little Kailash Lake. The Mansarovar Lake is known for its pristine beauty and has been referred to in the epics of Mahabharata and Ramayana.
