At a walking pace in the Srem district - Slankamenački Vinogradi

A full-day excursion along the untrodden paths of the Srem district, why not?

For all adventurers with or without a pet, who like to explore and visit places that are off the tourist maps, a tour of the hills and fields on the slopes of Fruška Gora can be a real pleasure and an opportunity to completely surrender to nature.

Hidden paths above the Village of Slankamenački Vinogradi that wind between vineyards and orchards offer the possibility of easy and relaxing walks, after which you will feel completely relieved from all the stress and bustle of city life for a long time.

Slankamenački Vinogradi is a village with about 250 inhabitants, mostly Slovaks.
What is interesting is that the name of the village itself was not given because of the proximity of the village's old and new Slankamen, but the village got it from the "slankamenka" grape variety.
Slankamenka or Plovdina is an old Balkan grape variety that is most often used for coupage, but the grapes are also used fresh because it's very tasty and pleasant to eat.

This variety has a very high yield, but the content of sugar and acids is rather small, so the wine obtained from this variety is drinkable and thin with a low alcohol and acid content.
The wine has a nice yellow or slightly reddish color.

The grape variety "Slankamenka" is grown not only in Vojvodina but also in Romania, Bulgaria, Turkey, Albania, and Hungary.

While you're there, don't miss the opportunity to stop by one of the houses and buy homemade wine from the Slankamenački Vinogradi.
I believe that the meeting with the friendly hosts will be an interesting and pleasant visual surprise for you, because the older inhabitants of Slankamenački Vinogradi still wear traditional Slovak folk costumes, hand-embroidered and intensely interesting in color.

In this village, every August, the event "Pudarski dani" is held, where in addition to enjoying the cultural and artistic program and getting to know Slovak culture, you can visit various competitions, such as competitions in the preparation of fish soup or stew, and participate in the tasting and announcement of the best wine and brandy.

When you go up the road towards the radar, paths and tractor tracks branch off to the left and right, leading through vineyards and orchards, and at the very end of the hill, spectacular views of the river Danube await you.

Here you can walk for hours, as long as your legs will take you, pick various medicinal herbs and refresh yourself with some apricots, peaches, or apples, depending on the season.

The fields and hills all around are covered with endless vines, fruit trees, corn, and wheat that look beautiful which will make this excursion a good opportunity to take extraordinary photos.

For the rest of the day, I suggest you go down to Stari Slankamen.

Just going down to Stari Slankamen is a unique experience for two reasons. Because of the serpentine and because of the extraordinary view that suddenly opens up to you from the top of the hill.

Here you can sit in some of the small restaurants on the river Danube and take a break having coffee or lunch. I also suggest that you take a short walk along the well-maintained marina, visit a winery or a saltwater spring, or if your soles are really itchy, head in the opposite direction to the beach.

And finally at the end of this day on the way back stop in Krčedin, a typical village of the Srem district.

In the center of the village, there are the most important institutions for the locals: primary school, Orthodox Church of Saint Nicholas, local community, post office...

The inhabitants of Krčedin and the surrounding towns are mainly engaged in agriculture, fruit growing, and viticulture, which will be clear to you from the view of the vast arable land that you will see as you approach the village itself.
The village is cute with beautifully painted old houses of the Pannonian type, but also more modern, one-story and two-story houses.

Sometimes, needless to say, you got to see this... pack your backpack and go on an adventure!
