Las Vegas Reopens for Business, Attracts Healthy Numbers of Tourists

The city of Las Vegas was profoundly affected by the closing of nonessential businesses in early 2021 to combat the pandemic. Fortunately, in early 2022, Vegas fully reopened, and visitors increased by more than 90 percent. At the same time, hotel occupancy attained a healthy 60-percent occupancy rate as room prices more than doubled from a year earlier.

According to the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA), visitor demand has been particularly robust on weekends, nearing a full recovery, while the convention and trade show business “is slowly building back.” A focus on safety has enabled this move toward expansion, with MGM Grand Resorts becoming the city’s first hotel-casino to require that all new and salaried employees be vaccinated.

With COVID restrictions lifted, there has been no letup in the use of technologies that help social distancing, such as contactless check-in and strict hygiene and sanitation protocols.
