About Tehran museum gardens:

Saad Abad complex

Saad Abad Museum Palace is in the north of Tehran and the foothills of Alborz. This museum palace is one of the beautiful monuments of the Qajar and Pahlavi period in Iran. This place looks like a beautiful mansion not only for Iranians, but also for tourists from all over the world; and it has an important share among Tehran Museum Palace in tourism.

Saad Abad Palace was originally the summer residence of the Qajar kings; but in 1299 (1920 A.D), with the increase of pavilions and green space, it became the summer residence of Reza Shah. Later, the Pahlavi king ordered to build other palaces to house members of the Pahlavi dynasty; which after 1979 revolution, they became museums. If you visited this place, don’t miss the Green Museum and the Summer Palace among the museums in this collection.

Niavaran palace museum

Niavaran Palace, located in the north of Tehran, was originally the summer palace of Fath Ali Shah Qajar. Later, Nasser al-Din Shah built the Saheboghranieh Palace in this complex. And During the Pahlavi era, by the order of Mohammad Reza Shah they built a mansion to house his family.

The garden of Niavaran Palace has it’s own beauty among the gardens of Tehran museums. Most of the mansions in this Palace complex turned into museums in 1986; and it was from then that Niavaran Palace became more popular among other garden museums in Tehran. Even if you don’t want to visit any museum in this complex, walking in the garden of this palace relaxing! But if you want our opinion, apart from walking in the garden, you must at least visit the Sabeqraniyeh Palace and the private palace.

Negarestan museum garden


The history of Negarestan Museum Garden goes back to the time of Fath Ali Shah Qajar. The large mansion of this garden is known as the garden of the gallery due to it’s beautiful paintings and drawings of the courtiers of the Qajar period. Among all museum gardens in Tehran, in Negarestan Museum Garden, many historical events have taken place; and the most important of them is the assassination of Ghaem Magham Farahani.

During the reign of Nasser al-Din Shah, he dedicated part of the garden space of the Negarestan Museum to educational space; and Malek-ol Sho’ara Bahar, Ali Akbar Dehkhoda and Dr. Mahmoud Hesabi, were among it’s graduates. There are several museums in this garden; and if you do not have time to see them all, we suggest you to at least visit the Museum of Miniature Sculptures of the Jahangir Arjomand.

Persian Art Garden

The Garden of Iranian Art, is relatively small among the garden of Tehran museums! This garden is located in an area of ​​less than one hectare in the Elahieh area of ​​Tehran; and it’s history dates back to the first Pahlavi era. There is a very beautiful mansion in the Persian Art Garden, which nowadays the use of it is a place for exhibition and educational spaces.

Twelve replicas of the most famous historical monuments of Iran are placed in this garden, which have been made by Italian artists. The voluminous works of famous Iranian artists are also permanently displayed in the garden of the Museum of Iranian Art. In this garden, in addition to the museum and gallery, there is also a store of cultural and artistic products and a coffee shop, which makes it one of the most luxurious gardens of museums in Tehran.

Golestan Palace

Golestan palace, is located in the center of Tehran. The foundation of this complex returns to Safavid era with a boulevard plan, which we can’t see today; but building the buildings goes back to Zand dynasty. And after that during the Qajar dynasty, it was very popular among the kings; and even the coronation ceremony of Pahlavi kings were held here.
Golestan palace involves many buildings that even some of them were destroyed; buildings such as “Takyye Dolat”. But most of the building still remain and we strongly suggest you to visit all of them.

Ferdows garden

Ferdows Garden with an area of ​​20,000 square meters is located in the north of Tehran, near Tajrish Square. The garden was built by order of Mohammad Shah Qajar. It’s three-story mansion with it’s 1,000-meter basement was once the residence of nobles; but today it is one of Tehran’s museum gardens.

In 1350 (1971 A.D), the Ferdows Garden mansion became a cultural and exhibition center. The Cinema Museum to this mansion in 2002, which is still active today. And in addition to the cinema hall, a bookstore, a cultural and artistic grocery store and several coffee shops are also active in this complex.

Mas’oudiyeh mansion

Mas’oudiyeh mansion has an area of ​​about 4,000 square meters, built in 1295 (1916 A.D), by order of Massoud Mirza, the son of Nasser al-Din Shah. In the construction of Mas’oudiyeh Mansion, the arts of plastering, tiling, calligraphy, murals and exquisite decorations have reached their peak compared to other gardens of Tehran museums. In 1997, this Mansion registered in the list of national monuments of Iran. After a tour of the garden, we suggest you to visit the cafe-restaurant of this complex. It has a great atmosphere and has the most famous breakfasts.

Moghaddam museum house

Moghaddam Museum House is located near Topkhaneh (Imam Khomeini) Square. Due to it’s very valuable objects, the house is one of the most expensive museum houses in the world; and it is also one of the best museums in Tehran. This house has survived from the late Qajar period to the present day and was the paternal home of Professor Mohsen Moghadam, the first Iranian archaeologist and one of the students of Kamal al-Molk, the great Iranian painter.

Master Moghadam and his French wife decided to buy and keep the historical objects that were in danger of being destroyed or taken out of Iran at that time. Professor Moghaddam dedicated this house with all his valuable works to the University of Tehran in 1351(1972 A.D). And in 2009, this museum house was reopened for public viewing.

Time museum garden

The area of ​​Tamashaghe Zaman Museum (In English: Time museum) is about 6700 square meters. And the 700-meter mansion in it now operates as the time museum garden of Tehran. The tools exhibited in the Museum of Time narrate the course of chronometric practice from the distant past to the present; and because of it’s beautiful environment, we consider it as a part of the garden of Tehran museums. The history of this garden dates back to the time of Qajar kings such as Nasseral-Din Shah and Mohammad Shah. And in the museum of this garden, you can see very expensive watches on display.
