Different parts of Mollabashi house:

This beautiful historic house consists of different parts inside and outside and different courtyards and corridors. This house even has a delivery room! Rooms with colorful window give a sense of art and beauty to you.

Andarooni (The inner room)

The inner room is the main part and the symbol of this house and there are about 15 rooms located in it. And trust us, large colored windows, Persian carpets and old backrests of this room will amaze you! If you reach these windows during the day and the housekeeper accompanies and draws the outer curtain, beautiful colored lights will be scattered in the room. Then they’ll drown you in world of alluring colors!

Howzkhaneh (The pond room)

In Mollabashi house, like other houses built in the middle of Qajar period, we can see a pond room. The pond room is one of the innovations of Iranian architects to create Summer space in the blind spots of the building. And also with the use of this room you can make a skylight from the ceiling in the building.

This room is located in the middle part of the building between the inner part (Andarooni) and outer courtyard (Birooni) of the building; and it has an octagonal shape. The room has two floors; and there are three doors in the Eastern and Western parts of it. These doors connect the pond room to the Andarooni and Birooni. The roof of the room is located on plastered columns; and an octagonal skylight has been constructed in it. Sunshade decorations of it include goldsmithing; and also a calendar in which the design and name of the twelve months of the year are engraved in English and Persian.

The interior of the house consists of a central square courtyard. There are, three-door, five-door and nine-door rooms located around this square courtyard. One of the most important differences between Mollabashi house and other historical houses in Isfahan and other cities of Iran is that it is the nine-door rooms. In other historical houses of Iran, three-door, five-door and maximum seven-door rooms have been built.

Sardabeh (The basement)

The crypt or basement is located under the shahneshin (the royal room) in the courtyard of Andarooni. The residents of the house used this part to store food in it; they also used it to escape the summer heat. The issue of privacy has been observed in all the entrance doors of Malabashi house. So the entrance of the East side ends to the corridor and the South door ends to the vestibule so that strangers do not see the inside of the house and the yard.

It is interesting to now that the house has two crypts; one goes back to the Safavid period and they built the other one during the Qajar era. The Qajar crypt is wider and has a wooden roof; but the Safavid crypt has a vaulted roof and a brick spring. Another difference is in the type of fireplaces, which was more important in the Safavid period and they did a lot of decorations on it.

Shahneshin (The royal room)

In Persian architecture, Shahneshin is a part that is located in the North of the Andarooni (inner part of the house) and is sunny. It is bigger and people also call it the three-door or five-door room depending on the numbers of the doors of the room. The royal room is a room with a relatively high height, which was usually twice the height of the other rooms of the house.

Motamedi house – The royal room

One of the most beautiful rooms of Mollabashi house is the royal room. You can see a variety of decorations in this room. The sills of the nine-door room open into the royal room. The existence of this unique door has given this room indescribable beauty. So that every viewer is amazed by it’s beauty. In this room, you can also see valuable objects exhibited. Sometimes photographers use the room for modeling work and projects.

Who is the owner of Mollabashi house?

Mollabashi was the astronomer of Nasser al-Din Shah during the Qajar period. He entered this house in Isfahan when he traveled to the city from Tehran to calm the uneasy atmosphere. The cause of the tense atmosphere was due to the rule of Nasser al-Din Shah’s eldest son.

Zol-e-Sultan was a tyrant who even wiped out Iran’s wildlife. He got into a dispute with his wife over an unusual act. Eventually, his wife went to a reliable person’s house in Isfahan as a sign of protest. To avenge his wife, Zol al-Sultan told all his sons that whoever killed her would get half of his property. As a result, the atmosphere in Isfahan became uneasy. So this caused Mollabashi, who was a cleric and a confidant of the king, to enter the city of Isfahan by order of him to calm the atmosphere.

After entering this mansion, this house became known as Mollabashi house. Mollabashi used this house as a cultural and religious institution. Numerous doors of this house also indicate this. Unfortunately there is no information available about the previous owner of this house.
