UK Cross Border Car Hire: New Changes!

The British Isles cover England, Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland and the Republic Of Ireland; it goes without saying that’s a fair amount to travel. Whether it’s taking a leisurely drive with a Scotland car hire through the highlands or starting in the South with a car hire in Wales, there is just about any starting point suitable for the ambitious traveller. As exciting as this sounds though, the question still remains – mustn’t it be expensive to travel so far across the Isles even with a UK cross border car hire?

If you’d asked about the price before, the answer would have been yes (around £200), particularly if you were planning on visiting The Republic of Ireland along the way. But there have been some recent changes with one of our suppliers, Sixt. What were these changes you may ask? Complete unrestricted travel around Britain for only £45!

But if really want to hear the details and maybe even get some ideas for a well-deserved trip, we’ll fill you in. However, we can also recommend a read of train travel in the UK to see an equally good chance to see the UK.

Why Travel With A UK Cross Border Car Hire?

The way we see it nowhere in Europe is there such a dynamic difference in the variety of people and places across all the Isles. For example, to compare Exeter to Wakefield, despite being in the same country there is a vast difference in the things to see and do within these cities. More so when you begin crossing borders.

In terms of the best locations to visit (encompassing Wales, England, Scotland, Northern Ireland and The Republic of Ireland), we have a few personal recommendations to serve as an outline, regardless of whether you’re planning a road trip or just need some inspiration!

Wales

To start off, we recommend the St Fagans National Museum of History. Located just outside Cardiff and very easily accessible by train or through a car hire at Cardiff Airport. The Museum itself is large enough that it can easily keep you engaged for multiple hours and even then, being so close to the capital of Cardiff ensures that you are within travelling distance from all the amenities you could need.

England

Largest in both landmass and population, England needs no introduction as to why you should visit except for making the most of the UK cross border car hire. With the huge number of cities and towns, it’s just about impossible to pick one above the rest, but we do have an idea. Personally, we recommend a visit to Leeds (where we’re based!). If it’s a shopping itch you’re feeling, the best way to treat yourself is through the Trinity shopping centre; out of 150 stores, there is sure to be something for you.

Scotland

Scotland is a tricky location for visiting depending on where you’re planning to travel. If it’s Scotland you want to explore independently and are willing to drive, Glasgow is always guaranteed to provide a worthwhile experience, particularly with its nightlife. Further South, however, lies the port of Cairnryan which offers one of the few ferries into Northern Ireland.

Northern Ireland

Speaking of Northern Ireland. If arriving by Ferry, you’ll be headed straight into the capital of Belfast. There is of course a plethora of restaurants and bars to keep you occupied, just be sure to leave the driving for before. Outside of that, the Titanic Museum stands as a historic retelling of the Titanic and its construction which was done so in Belfast itself.

Ireland

A new addition to this service that previously required a hefty additional fee is now conveniently available. With the UK cross border car hire service, you can effortlessly travel between Northern Ireland and The Republic of Ireland or vice versa. All of Ireland itself is not too vast in size, with the distance from Belfast to Dublin being only a 2 hour drive. There is of course no shortage of further museums to explore but in our experience, the food is some of the best.

Can You Use A UK Cross Border Car Hire Elsewhere?

As the name implies, this offer is exclusively for travel within the Greater Britain area, excluding, Guernsey, Jersey and the Isle of Man. Don’t fret however, if you do want to visit any of these locations or even mainland Europe, plenty of suppliers can offer this service at a competitive price and alongside other relevant services.

This specific offer does however only come from one of our suppliers and as such can differ between the others that we work with. Typically, with most suppliers in the UK it will not be an issue if you are travelling between England and Wales, Scotland and England, etc. Though as long as you declare that you’re planning to travel across border, it will be in your best interest should an unexpected breakdown (as likely as it is) occur.

Another crucial note comes if youintend to travel between Great Britain and Ireland. Although as we mentioned, it is absolutely something we can help with, not all suppliers allow for it. All -in-all, so long as we’re informed of which countries you’re planning to take your rental we can assure your trip will go smoothly.
