LARNACA

This is the first port of call for many flying into Cyprus but it has far more to offer than just a landing strip. For one the church of Saint Lazarus who was four days dead before he was raised back to life by his ‘friend’ Jesus and to this day he is patron saint of the city.

Then there is the Zenobia Wreck which is available to view with diving equipment.

Finikoudes beach has grey sand and calm waters suitable for the young ones, with Larnaca Salt Lake serving as a shrimp-filled feast for flamingoes and other wildfowl.

Mackenzie beach is popular with the locals so good reason to try out bathing and swimming there as a tourist.

PAPHOS

Just to get a feel for the heritage of Cyprus’ history take a trip to the Archaeological Park of Kato Pafos (Paphos). The sites and monuments range from the 4^th century BC to the Middle Ages. Particularly of note are the astounding mosaics in the four Roman villas (the houses of Dionysos, Theseus, Aion and Orpheus).

BATHS OF APHRODITE AND APHRODITE’S BEACH

The baths are so called due to the natural beauty of the location and the peace and serenity this provides the visitor. Then there is the famous Aphrodite’s Beach which is alleged to be the birthplace of Aphrodite.

CORAL BAY

Dive into the clear waters of Coral Bay where you can swim, snorkel, windsurf, hand-glide and jet-ski.

AYIA NAPA SEA CAVES AND THE MONUMENT OF PEACE

If you have opted for the 4×4 Jeep as your vehicle you may want to visit the sea caves and the Blue Lagoon. And if you feel adventurous take a hike up to the Monument of Peace where you will find sensational views across the canyon.

PAPHOS APHRODITE WATERPARK

This is the biggest waterpark in the Paphos region and uses natural landscaping to provide an aqua adventure centre. There are high-speed water slides, an extensive lazy river, wave surge pool and lots for the kids to enjoy too.

TOMBS OF THE KINGS

These are monumental underground tombs carved out of solid rock and go back to the Hellenistic and Roman periods. It does not actually house kings, rather high-ranking officials and aristocracy, but the splendour is definitely regal.

ELEOUTHKIA BOTANICAL PARK

This is a really educational attraction with details about the various plants in the venue.

TROODOS MOUNTAINS

These are really off the beaten track partly as Cyprus is predominantly promoted as a ‘beach’ holiday. You can really make the most out of your Indigo hire car discovering the fascinating environs that is so unspoilt.

LACHI

Here you will find a comparatively quiet beach and marina with more than a smattering of tavernas serving luscious seafood.

LIMASSOL

Kourian is a well preserved Greek and Roman site with some interesting ruins.

The Marina is quite a happening place and shows how Limassol is becoming more cosmopolitan nowadays.

The Castle and its Medieval Museum chronicles the history of the region and stands out as a rare piece of heritage in the city.
