For Easter, we traveled to Germany to visit friends. We flew to Frankfurt on Good Friday and drove to our friends’ house in a small village near Bamberg. Once we arrived, we strolled around the village, caught up with our friends, and had a lovely dinner at their house.
Visiting Bamberg, a town from the 9th century
After a slow morning on Saturday, we headed to Bamberg to explore this beautiful city from the 9th century. Our friend works there and used to live there so our hosts showed us around the town. We walked around the old center, tasted the famous local smoked beer (Rauchbier) at Schlenkerla, and had local hot dogs from a food truck at Maximiliansplatz. After lunch, we continued exploring and had a few drinks before heading to an early dinner at Henrii. The food was excellent and back at our friends’ house we just relaxed for the rest of the night. On Sunday we took a walk and had dinner at a Gasthaus in a nearby village called Gasthaus Hofmann. This was yet again a tasty dinner and the evening was spent relaxing.

On Monday we walked to a nearby village called Prölsdorf to explore the Easter market (Ostermarkt). The one-way walk was a good 3 km and in Prölsdorf we explored the market. After walking around it was time to sit down for a beer. Being properly hydrated we walked around some more and had a spot of lunch before walking back. That evening we had dinner at the local Gasthaus across the street from our friends’ house. The food at the Gasthaus was a tasty traditional German fare. On Tuesday it was time for us to leave our friends and return to Frankfurt. We had a lovely visit and a relaxing Easter with our friends.
